Great story!
I needed this....a story about complex characters that were beautifully designed and revealed in an engaging plot. No violence, no car chases, no boogeymen lurking in the shadows. I loved it.

Good read
While it wasn’t alway entirely realistic, I still really enjoyed the story as Lise’s world suddenly changes after her estranged country star sister’s dies and she becomes responsible for her niece, Ariel, she hadn’t seen since the falling out years ago. As Ariel tries drags Lise back through the past and it’s difficult memories in search of her father, and with the paparazzi on their tail, we learn more about what happened in the past and its implications for present day. I thought it was a clever way to tell the story, and the characters were likeable.Narration was also great.

Relationships
Callie is a famous musician and singer with a teenage daughter and an estranged family. When she dies she is worth millions. Annelise is the older sister who raised Callie took care of their dysfunctional parents and gets left to always pick up the pieces. When Callie leaves her daughter, the bulk of her money, her business interests and her secrets to Annelise it all falls to her to make it right. This is an emotional and very intriguing story and the authors grasp of the family dynamics as well as the entertainment business gives depth to the story and characters. Definitely an author I will look more again.

Eh
The love line between Dale and Lise feels rushed. For a book that I had a hard time getting in to, I'm shocked I even finished it at all. It's well written, but not my cup of tea. The other ratings are what lead me to read it and honestly had higher hopes, but, as I said, not my cup of tea. This feels more aimed toward the teenager and young adult population..

A feel-good story!!!
I got pulled in right from the start. The story of Lise and Callie and all the emotions of growing up reminded me of my sister's. And how Dale and Lise's love finally brought them together was the perfect ending to this wonderful story. Ariel finally finding her father that she always wanted was fantastic. I laughed and cried right along with the wonderful characters in this book that I would recommend to anyone. Thank you Kerry Anne King for a fabulous read!!!

Heart wrenching and heart warming
I love Kerry Anne King novels and this one is no exception. Poetically beautiful language and layered ranges of emotions weave her characters through messy and imperfect life experiences. Ms. King’s ability to bring people of all ages and living circumstances to become well developed players in her narrative setting have had me on a binge of reading for weeks now. I loved getting to know Lise, Dale, Ariel, and the prodigal Callie who connects them all upon her untimely and tragic death that takes readers on our journey Closer Home.

Great read
Kerry Ann King is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. I really enjoyed this book. It was an engaging read the whole way through. I like how the author develops the characters - they are interesting, realistic and sympathetic. In this book I particularly liked how people's perspective changed as they (and the reader) learned more details about what happened in the past, and why people did what they did.I got a tiny bit frustrated with two of the main characters toward the very when they kept getting in their own way of being happy, but it was mild. The ending was very convenient and predictable in a way that may not seem plausible to some but I liked how it went, that's why I read fiction instead of biographies and documentaries.

An engaging and heart-warming story
CLOSER HOME is an engaging and heart-warming story about the complicated bond between two sisters -- one famous and prematurely dead, the other thrust unexpectedly into the limelight after her sister's sudden death. The characters and their conflicts feel real, nothing is too easily resolved, and the romance that winds through the story is genuinely sweet. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Could easily be cliche but is so well written it's actually absorbing...
I bought this book because the cover really appealed to me however once I started reading Closer Home, by Kerry Anne King, I couldn't put it down. King takes on a story that could easily be cliche: a woman (Lise) grappling with the death of the difficult, estranged sister (Callie) she raised and who betrayed her trust in multiple ways. The story opens ten years later when Callie dies in an accident, leaving Lise her enormous estate and custody of her very wounded teenaged daughter Ariel. Lise's life is upended as her niece insists on hunting for her father, one of many romances mentioned in her Mothers diary, while they are unmercifully hounded by the press. This is a journey about family, forgiveness, loyalty and love. Lise is thrown into a world unknown to her, and has to learn how to navigate it and also learn who she can trust, all while taking care of her niece. She quickly finds out being famous isn't as glamorous as it looks, and she is faced with more problems than she could have imagined. I loved the characters, and wanted to see things work out for Lise and Ariel. Overall, I thought this was a great book I would definitely recommend.

Fantastic Beach Read
I forgot that these lighter beach reads could be genuinely good literature. Definitely recommend.

Emotional roller coaster
I absolutely loved the heartfelt writing of this author. The story grabbed me from the first chapter, and although some of the plot was predictable, there were twists and turns that kept me riveted. The characters were flawed, making decisions on assumptions, rather than communicating with each other, but they got there in the end. I did feel the end was a little rushed...I could definitely have read more on these characters. I absolutely fell in love with Lise, Dale and Ariel. I would love a story about Ariel. Just saying.I read this book in one sitting. I just couldn't put it down. Highly recommended.Thank you Kerry. I will definitely be looking out for your next book.
