great reference
Enjoyed eating at izakaya restaurants in Japan ... what a treat with small plates of seasonal foods ..... how nice to have a good cookbook with well-described steps to make some of these delectable treats ... almost puts me back in Kyoto.

Fun, approachable cookbook for a fun, approachable style of eating!
"Your Home Izakaya" is a welcome and unique addition to my cookbook shelf! A tasty collection of Japanese recipes to accompany cocktails, beer or non-alcoholic teas, this book offers a mix of light bites, richer dishes, soul-nurturing hotpots and drinks to suit whatever the day or mood. I appreciate a cookbook that offers insight into the author's motivation and inspiration, and Tim Anderson always delivers - his writing style makes you feel like he's sitting in your kitchen, chatting at your table while you potter away chopping and cooking. Because of this, every recipe seems doable and delicious - and fun! Always fun!Perhaps my favourite feature is the meal suggestions at the bottom of every recipe - rather than making one or two small plates and wondering what else to eat, the book cleverly and helpfully offers recipes and page numbers to easily create a meal for two (as well as drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, to have alongside). Sounds like a minor detail, but as I read through the book and mark dozens of recipes, I don't have to wonder which ones will work best together - Tim has done that for me!I would definitely recommend this book to anyone, it is a gem!

Beautiful book with brilliant writing and great recipes
Bought this book after seeing it recommended by Jay Rayner and subsequently looking at the Instagram feed of the author (which sells the book incredibly well). I love it and will be giving it as gifts to family and friends. The narrative (a book that emerged from the lockdown experience to help recreate the food and food cultures some miss) is genuinely sweet. The recipes are very good. We’ve made a couple so far and plan to make many more. The photography is brilliant (as are the illustrations). This book is beautiful, usable and inspiring.Buy it for yourself. Buy it for your friends. Everyone will be happier for it. :)

Quite a useful book
Izakaya are small bar/cafes in Japan. This book describes how to make the sort of things they serve. Japanese cooking is sometimes thought of as difficult but this book is clear and simple.
