plain matte blue, not metallic
The product shots make the blue parts of this toy (which are ALL paint, so don't plan on using 90% rubbing alcohol to get rid of the egregious "battle damage" on the chest, though you can still clean up the shins and windscreen) look metallic and shiny, but they are in fact just a plain solid blue, with a finish that's almost completely flat. It's still the same very solid mold as all the other repaints have been, but the finish was disappointing in hand.

Good toy, but why does this version exist?
First, take a Japanese Diaclone car robot toy from 1982, available in black, yellow, or red. The red one became Sideswipe in 1984, and the black one (with blue highlights) became Deep Cover in 2003. In 1993, they made a “G2” Sideswipe that swapped his reds and his blacks. In 2018, they made a Sideswipe with a more “Cybertronian” car mode, then a G2 color scheme version of that, then Deep Cover’s version in 2021, and now here we are after 6 or 7 total repaints of the same toy, with a speculative Cybertronian color-flipped G2 version of a little-known deco from 39 years ago. It’s a good toy. You have to give them that. But maybe this was too many versions.
