Not about Newfs, just a generic book about the average dog
Just a generic book for dogs, not Newf specific minus the front page. Bought a few books and this one I stopped reading pretty quickly. WHY? because when I started to read this I realized within the first few pages this was not what I was looking for, I have owned a newf and have read a few books, and bought this book for my co parent who has never had a puppy or a newf and I wanted to get him the knowledge and prepared for the newf puppy's arrival in a few weeks.Disappointed in this book... if you are looking for a newfie book look elsewhere, this is a generic dog book.

Glad I Got This Book
This book has some wonderful ideas and I will put them to good use. Very happy that I got this book as it helps me to better understand why my puppy acts as she does.

TERRIBLE
Terrible book. Generic. I’d guess they write this about every dog and put a different picture on the front. I have learned so much information specific to the Newfoundland dog that was NOT even mentioned in the book.

priceless tidbits
this book has given me priceless advice ob how to raise my newfoundland puppy. i mostly overlook the fact that the book is clearly written by a lady who is happy putting her dog in a cage.

There was lots of interesting sections however I do think the book was maybe written some time ago as there was mention of "shock collar" training which isn't really a modern or recommended training method
We bought this prior to welcoming our newf puppy. We wanted to learn a bit more about the history of the dog, health issues and about their breed personality traits so we could swot up a bit before the arrival. There was lots of interesting sections however I do think the book was maybe written some time ago as there was mention of "shock collar" training which isn't really a modern or recommended training method. We did purchase several puppy books (and employed a dog trainer) and the best money we spent was on a more general puppy book and the assistance of the trainer. It was interesting though but most of the contents are freely available if you type "newfoundland puppy" into google.
