I was initially very disappointed in this purchase. Was bought for my 11 week old rottweiler pup. Call me paranoid, but I don't want to risk her strangling herself with a collar. At the same time, she needs to get used to wearing a "necklace" so she can be leash trained. I was sure this was the solution.I couldn't make it pop open by hand. I'm not exaggerating when I say I pulled HARD with both hands to try to make it break away. I eventually hooked it over my foot and pulled, that made it pop. But there was no way I was putting that on my pup. Just as reassurance that it's not a weakness issue, I can hold back my six year old male rottweiler with a leash when he sees a rabbit.My husband found it in the trash. After he pulled it apart, yes he could make it open, he agreed that it wasn't safe. He used a rotary tool to grind some of the plastic away. It now pops open with (my best guess) about 8-10 pounds of pressure.Zena is now the new owner of a bright red collar. She currently hates it, not gonna lie, but she hasn't been able to scratch it off, yet. For those that worry, yes it's removed at night until she decides to accept it. Hopefully soon, I will be able to start her leash training.I'm very confused over why a break away collar would be made to be that difficult to actually break away. Benefit of the doubt, maybe I got a defect. If you have the ability to grind/sand the end to loosen it, then I recommend taking the chance. Keeping my pup safe is worth it. But be sure to test it before use.I ultimately gave it four stars because I don't have the knowledge or skills to make my own and it was relatively easy to fix. But I couldn't, in all fairness, give a full five stars.

I just got the collar and it appears to be really well made and durable. After an accident that almost strangled my dog to death, I didn’t want to take any risks. So I decided to try the breakaway part, thinking that it could be reassembled again. It is a one and done folks lol. It took a good deal of force but I think it’s balanced for everyday use! Looks like I’ll have to buy one again.

I love not having to worry if my dogs collars will get caught on something or each other and hurt them. They play a lot and I would never want one of their teeth getting stuck in the others collar and not be able to help them when away from home. Don’t have to stress about that now!

My mom told me about these products and all the horror stories she’s read online and I’ve had a few instances where my babys collar has gotten caught in her mouth and she panicked. Luckily someone was home but after that I said no more the standard collars! These breakaway collars are so amazing. I have 2 dogs and each dog has one. My dogs are my babies and I will do everything to keep them safe and this product is perfect for what I needed.

I ordered this because one of my dogs grabs his friends by the collar when playing. Unfortunately once he got his teeth hung and twisted up and he nearly choked the other dog to death accidentally. So this collar was the perfect solution. When the aforementioned dog grabbed the collar it would snap loose and nobody got hurt. The bad news is the dog it snapped off of is young and once the collar fell off she ate it into two pieces. So now I’m back to square one but this is a great product

I purchased this because the dog daycare place I use mentioned said they required "break-away" collars, so I purchased these for my two pups.Concerns:1) the break-away snap requires way too much pressure to release. My 12 lb dog will never be able to force this apart in an emergency. I had to sand it down using a dremel to a more reasonable tightness.2) My other dog has a neck size right around 14". There is no overlap in size between the small and medium sizes. So the small collar at its largest setting barely fits, and the medium size at the smallest setting can still be pulled over my dogs head. An inch or two overlap in the size range would be greatly appreciated.3) The two D-rings on the small sized collar are smaller than the D-rings on the medium collar, and as such are too far apart to connect the leash to both D-rings simultaneously. So while this collar would be suitable for wearing around the house and our fenced in yard, we won't be using it when walking the pups. Just not worth the risk of my pup seeing a rabbit and pulling free.

Years ago I nearly lost my dog when she was wrestling with her sister and got her collar stuck on her sister's jaw. It took me taking a knife to the collar to get her free and CPR to save her. This breakaway collar is a lifesaver. Ever since that day, my dogs only wear breakaway collars. A few years after the first incident my dog got her collar caught again, but this time the collar broke free and she was safe. With this collar, I never have to worry about leaving the dogs alone because I know that if they get caught on something they will be safe. It doesn't matter the price, this collar is worth every penny.

I have 2 scottie pups, 1 of 6 months and 1 of 7 months. The older one will often get hold of the younger one's collar in play, and having heard about a dog being killed in this situation, as well as the risk of injury to the other dog, I found these collars. Mungo did get his teeth caught in Nessie's collar whilst I was in the room and the collar separated and came apart before I was able to get to them. They are walked by a dog walker mid-day and so wear their collars in the day - I often come home to find Nessie's collar off her, so Mungo is clearly targetting her collar regularly. Nessie' collar is now looking very chewed, so I've had to buy a replacement - but that's after 3 months and anyone owning a scottie will know how strong their jaws are!

These collars are great. Bought this as our springer pup has outgrown the smaller one now.Being a springer he loves the bushes, brambles, long grass even gorse. He has got into a bit of bother and the collar splits exactly as I want it too. Too many horror stories or dogs like springers getting choked when tangled up out of site in a bush.Cannot fault this collar and recommend it to all who worry about their active bush diving nutty dog choking.

This was my third collar bought! My lurcher pup is a dab hand at getting his brothers collar of he knows just where to nip! I won’t be buying anymore as this last one is lost in the field just like the previous ones. However they are a great collar and if you only have one dog or two that leave collars lone they are a great buy.

I bought this a couple of months back after my friend's dog died when his collar caught on a window latch while my friend was out. My dog's lead caught on a seat belt pod as she got out of the car just now. I clip the lead to only one ring on the collar when travelling and the collar released as expected. It may well have prevented an injury. Thank you Keepsafe! The collar is well made, with good quality fittings. It is soft and flexible enough for my very fine-coated staffy cross. Some collars rub her but this one is fine. I'll never go back to using a normal collar, especially after today's incident.

For that peace of mind that if the collar ever does get caught your dog isn't going to be injured,highly recommend for dogs who have a collar on all the time.It does work,after my dog only having it on for a couple of days he got caught on the dryer door,the collar snapped apart and no injury done,collar fits together again with no issues.
