Q: Is this large enough to accomodate a toilet brush?

No the height of the can does not accommodate the normal/ordinary off the shelf toilet brush. There are shorter brushes, need to look for them.

Q: Many people say the scoop that comes with it isn't great. If I want to use a different scoop, what is the widest one that would fit?

The widest scoop that will fit is 5" wide. The newer metal scoops (most are 5.5" wide) won't fit. The plastic cheaper ones mostly fit easily.

Q: Dos the durascoop jumbo cat litter scoop fit in this holder?

Idk but the Target Up&Up Metal Nonstick scoop fits, I just bought it and tried it out

Q: What material is this?

It's plastic. Surprisingly nice looking though. Not too cheap looking (in black anyway, haven't seen the white in person). Almost looks like porcelain or ceramic since it's somewhat sculptural. Cute enough to leave sitting out.
