Satisfied!
This is an excellent solution for me. Long or short term travel is well accommodated with this luggage. I especially like the large open space....some have complained about the lack of compartments, but for me the large open space allows me to use packing cubes of various sizes and prefectly meet my needs. I arrange them according to my needs rather than having to settle for what the manufacturer decided was right. The luggage-to-backpack conversion is quick, easy and well thought out. I just ordered the Outrider Daypack as a compliment. This system suits all my needs, and Swiss service and warranty can't be beat.

Great carry-on for Europe
Purchased this bag as a carry-on for a trip through Europe - we visited Italy, Germany, and England over 2 weeks. This bag was very well-suited for this trip. It is smaller than allowed for a US airline carry-on, so it fits better in smaller overhead bins (such as the AA 767 we flew over and back on), and also fits perfectly in the overhead racks on the inter-city and regional trains we rode on around all three countries we visited. It was very stable rolling over cobblestone streets, and the rotating handle helped a lot with comfort. I bought it because of the backpack conversion but I never needed to use it, the rollers were very good for getting it around. The arched pull bar also helped to keep the bag away from my legs when rolling so it never bumped my legs or feet. Size-wise, it was fine for a my packing-light strategy; i didn't really have a lot of extra room but i was able to easily unpack, repack, and unpack (5 hotels plus an overnight train in 14 days) without hassle. The inner and outer straps kept everything very secure. Quality-wise, it held up well; no problems. Only thing keeping it from 5-stars: the zippers for the main compartment open down each side from the top, with the bottom of the bag not opening, so you sort of have to hold the main flap open while you load it. Sort of a silly design choice. But it was OK, I worked with it. Overall a good choice for Europe travel, or anywhere you need to take a slightly smaller rolling bag.

All show but no go
This was given to me as a gift and recently used it on a trip where I was on about 10 different flights over 2 weeks. I previously had an older square-shaped roller bag which has served me well for the last 10+ years.Due to all the bells and whistles that obviously some marketing guy put on a list somewhere, I found this bag actually does not hold much at all. I had trouble fitting even 1 complete change of clothes, not to mention other items like my electric shaver. The "monopole handle system" intrudes into the interior of the bag, wasting tons of space. The large curve at the top of the bag further reduces storage capacity, yet still takes up the same amount of space in an overhead bin. Features like the built-in backpack make no sense at all, since every major airline allows two carry-on bags so you'll have a wheeled luggage and a dedicated backpack. Having multiple wheeled bags or multiple backpacks is just completely silly, in my opinion.I also found the compression straps to be obnoxious and unnecessary. This isn't a Lowe backpack, so quit trying to be one by ticking a feature checkbox. My old luggage has nice rubbery wheels, yet this Victorinox has hard plastic wheels which were noisy and annoying no matter where I went. The backpack strap buckles started wearing through the back cover already. The front cover doesn't open cleanly, so you just have this goofy tongue-looking thing that keeps wanting to flop closed while you try to pack your stuff.Again, the overall odd shape of this really prevents you from easily packing your folded clothes and other items. The monopole is terrible for laptop bags and laptop backpacks that have the pass-through channel on the back. Those are designed for a normal, wider setup, so they just keep falling over. Perhaps if this bag were square at the top it would work, but no, it is curvy, further adding to the frustration. Now, how do I get rid of this thing...

It's nice to have both options as a wheeled carryon or ...
I purchased this bag for a trip to Italy. I got it mainly for the backpack straps and durability. I rarely ended up using it in backpack mode. It's nice to have both options as a wheeled carryon or a backpack. The bag may be smaller than a standard bag due to its construction but it works well in overhead bins--esp. if you'll be traveling on regional airlines where you need to be able to push it down to fit in the bin. The straps can help keep it tight.

Superior Quality Bag!
This bag is the best! I researched carry-ons pretty hard before deciding on this Victorinox. I love the handle which is long enough and keeps the rolling bag off your heels. There is plenty of room inside, with pockets that zip. The construction is superior; wheels roll quietly and smoothly. The base is one piece heavy material that should last a lifetime and keep the bottom of the bag out of the wet. There are hidden backpack straps within a zip pocket at the back that lie perfectly flat when zipped up. I was unsure about ordering the "purple" color, but it actually deep burgundy; classy alternative to basic black. Definitely recommend!
