The Baker Compact Bible Dictionary

I bought this book, on recommendation from 2 ordained ministers in full time ministry, to assist me in studying the Bible more in depth. It is a valuable tool in providing historical information about aspects of the Bible that provide greater insight, knowledge and understanding.

My husband had seen this online and had asked for it as a Christmas Gift - I checked around for other places to pick it up or to order it - I chose Amazon and it did arrive just as promised - but warn your delivery person - this book is heavy - did I mention heavy, but it is because it is so full of information - My husband had looked at it so many times since Christmas - the first few days it was just about anytime something was mentioned about the Bible or that time frame or geographic locations - being around Christmas of course there was a lot of that going on - He loves it and I am sure will be using it often - it helps to know a little more about the things you read and hear in your Bible Studies and discussions.It is well worth the price and I would recommend it for anyone wanting to know a little more about the Bible era and great for teachers and preachers.

This is a quality Bible dictionary with clear and concise articles and wonderful illustrations. Right now I'm going to Bible school, and this dictionary has been a consistent help on every topic where I have found an article, and I'm frequently surprised by the topics I find that I've never even thought of! The articles address places, names, books of the Bible, theological topics, or general biblical words or ideas. The cover, arrangement of the text, pictures, and the gloss of the pages is outstanding.This book should not be viewed as highly scholarly; it does not provide the names of each author for each article, nor does it provide bibliographic suggestions for further study; but it does give quality information on each topic addressed, very nicely presented.This is a welcome addition to my library, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a resource or study aid made at this level.

The price and quick arrival of this book were commendable. Though in new condition, the book had a long crease on the front cover - do not know if it happened there or after arrival. Otherwise, a good deal. Thank you!Karen

This is a good resource if you are looking for something functional and easy to carry and use. It will have entries for most things you would like to look up and the information will be written in a way that is easy to understand for the beginning Bible study but also with enough depth to satisfy the seasoned Bible study or individual. Bible quotes come from the NIV translation. This is strictly a dictionary and does not contain illustrations and charts.

The book is good with no complaint. I'm just curious why there is a blue line drawn by a sharpie marker on the lower ridge. It's not printed. I'm sure it's drawn by hand. I also bought Baker's Bible Handbook and Baker's Bible Commentary. There is always such a line hand drawn by a blue sharpie marker on the lower ridge of the book. I bought all these three Baker's books from three different sellers on Amazon.

This Book is filled with pertinent information regarding The WORD of GOD. I AM enjoying the material I access as I study The WORD. The maps allow me to see the locations of long and arduous various journeys of GOD's People.

Excellent resouce, but there is a problem with the e edition. You have to go to great lenghts to find what you are looking for in the dictionary. Takes way more time than if you had the hard copy. Hope they are able to comat this problem in future editions.

Huge amount of information about every subject , name, and character mentioned in the Holy Bible. Not the sort of thing to carry in your back pocket or even backpack, but a must have book for anyone interested in The Book of God.Concise, clear, and engaging.

Just what I needed does what it says on the tin

Every non-dictionary word appearing in the English Bible (that includes various versions available today) finds a place in this Book. I think that this book is a MUST for all serious students of the Bible. Bible is not an easy book to understand even for devoted persons. This book makes that study easier.

The Dictionary is insightful and provides exegetical understanding to Biblical words and Phrases. Since the Bible is not only to be read, but should also be meditated, this Books aids meditation of Scripture. This Book is certainly an useful tool any student of Scripture.
