The Story of Johnny Appleseed

Just as I remembered when I was a kid - and still love the story and pics!
Aliki’s story of Johnny Appleseed is so heartwarming in its simplicity and clarity in both the story and the artwork. I loved this book as a kid and was so happy to find it so I could give it to my grandchildren. I hope they enjoy it as much as I did (. It will be a Christmas gift).

Great book to teach about Johnny Appleseed, and how Apple trees grow through out the U. S.

Great book! It was not the Christian take on the book about him sharing God's word which he did as he traveled along!
I loved the story but was not happy that they took the gospel message from his great work. He was a wonderful Christian and as he traveled to shared the word of God and left bibles for them as well as the apple trees. That was the reason I wanted the book in the first place. Your service was great and I will get the real true story from Child Evangelism Fellowship {CEF} whom I served with as a missionary for many years and wet to Russia and also to Santa Domingo in the Dominican Republic three separate times to share the gospel of Christ with those in the village and to the school of children there.

Johnny Appleseed
My children were fascinated by the idea of a man who walked around America planting apple trees. They really laughed when they guessed what his hat was - a pot for cooking! This was a good addition to my apple unit. The text was a little above my 3,4,&5 year olds, so I paraphrased some of it. I would recommend it to a teacher in Kindergarten or first grade.

simply written
i read to 4 yr olds. this is the only johnny appleseed book i've found that tells his story simply. no hyperbole, no grandiosity. just a simple retelling by a person who obviously thinks highly of this gentle American pioneer.recommended for anyone too young or old to need hyperbole.

I thought it would be a good choice. Still I was surprised at how much ...
As an American, I grew up with the story of Johnny Appleseed, and as my 5.5-year-old son has recently become obsessed with the idea of planting seeds (alas, we live in a flat without a garden and so far have only been able to plant small pepper plant), I thought it would be a good choice. Still I was surprised at how much he enjoyed it, and we've already read it several times. The illustrations are colourful and appealing in their simplicity, and the story is folksy and sweet. My son was confused about the use of the word "Indians" to describe Native Americans, but it was a good opportunity to discuss the origins of the word, and the way Native Americans were treated.
