Interesting storyline
An interesting storyline against the backdrop of diving and law enforcement, with well drawn characters, set in Florida, good pace, effective cliffhangers and a satisfactory conclusion for the reader.

A good read
Not as fast paced as I'm used to reading but it did keep me hooked. The characters are likeable and relatable and it's nice to read a crime novel that's slightly different as in based in the water instead of on land. I will read the next ones as I quite like the characters and have enjoyed reading about life underwater

Review, not a synopsis.
I was drawn to this book by the description when it was present as a "First Read" a month of so ago, It seemed like something original, at least I can't remember seeing the premise used before. The first thing I want to say about this book is that I really like it, and intend to read the second when it is released. I really enjoyed reading it, thought it was a good story, with plenty happening from start to finish. However, I also have to say that there are some things that let it down a little bit.I felt that the book could have had been a little more descriptive, in relation to some of the characters, and the setting of the scene. This comment is a lot less relevant the further and further into the book you get, but I felt that certain locations/scenes were not fully explored, and the level of threat was not truly conveyed in relation to some very dangerous wildlife (which should be treated with respect for good reason). Finally, a Minor Spoiler (which only features in the story when its mentioned) and the one thing with which I had a big issue, Bribes paid by cheque. That said, this was a good story with plenty of action, good guys, bad guys, suspicious characters, suspicious characters who turn out not to be bad guys, and plenty of plot developments along the way. In fact, it really has all the qualities of a very good read, and for that reason it was just that. So, am I being picky? probably (OK definitely), but the things mentioned do detract from the overall story in a minor way.Would I recommend this book? Absolutely. Like I said at the start of this review I really liked this book.

Page turner IF all scepticism suspended.
Unbelievably fast moving, violent and comic heroine stuff. Fun for an escapist read, characters are shallow. Nothing to actually say but more length and variation than a TV cop drama.

A Great Read Until the End - Then Disappointing
I was really impressed and stayed up late into the night reading this. I loved the writing and the central character and her family had me hooked, the plot was engaging and I was wishing that I could have written a book like this. Then, what an anticlimax. It's as if the author ran out of steam and just wanted to get it done. Please, please rewrite the ending. I was so disappointed. It just fizzled out like a damp squib.I should probably have given it 3 stars, but the first 300 pages were so good that I wanted to give it 5.

Loved it
Brilliant characters you can get behind. Tough guys who aren’t Superman/Woman and get shot and the bounce up but actually feel pain. A plot to keep you guessing. Adventure and plot twists. Family love and loyalty. And all set in a fascinating environment, the sea. Well worth reading.

Adventurous stuff
A decent page turner, it has all the elements of an adventure thriller with a few extras thrown in. Not bad at all.

A fast=paced underwater thriller
This was a really fun book! Great characters, and intriguing mystery, and most importantly, fast paced underwater action! Sure, the diving scenes might push the limit of possibility, but I read thrillers to be entertained, not fora master class in some arcane skill. This is the perfect vacation or beach read!

A really novel approach to crime thrillers
The writing is what I expected from Andrew Mayne. Interesting characters, a good and unusual plot and held my attention throughout. Good read!

Good concept, execution could have been better.
I like the concept and the characters are interesting enough. However I came here after reading the naturalist and although that series also went downhill the first naturalist book is one of the most interesting books I've read in my life and I keep looking for signs of that brilliance in all the authors other books. I definitely didn't find it here. I skimmed by large chunks of the book just to finish it but there was no real satisfaction even at the end. I guess gangs n drug or whatever money cases just don't do much for me. I like proper murder mysteries. This started out promisingly enough, but soon the murders were playing second fiddle to financial crimes and that's just boring for me.
