Eydie wasn t the first pop singer to dabble in country music, but she was one of the best, as this album, which made the 1964 charts, melodiously attests. And any time you get to hear Eydie singing in front of Don Costa arrangements, well, that s a treat not to be missed! The complete, original release, with three bonus tracks and a note from the late, great lady herself.

Marvelous Eydie- She is Missed
Great album by a lovely lady who I remember seeing on TV back in the 50's and on the show she was introduced to Steve who was in his Military uniform. What a pair they became, sometimes being made fun of but always loved. If you really want to here Eydie at her best then check out the double CD "Don't Go To Strangers/Softly as I Leave, in my opinion her 2 best albums of all time.By all means though try this one, Eydie you are missed.

Country With Style
Eydie does a great job on all the songs on this CD. While her Don't Go To Strangers/Softly As I Leave You CD is my all time favorite, this CD ranks pretty high on the list. She brings a different perspective to many of the songs and appears to be having fun singing them. Eydie's voice is in top form and the arrangements by Don Costa enhance rather than overpower the material. While it is hard to pick my favorite on this CD, I think it is "The End of The World". Eydie does a great job on songs that tell a story such as "When He Leaves You" on the "Don't Go To Strangers" CD and on this CD the "It Takes Too Long To Live Alone" a song I'd never heard before.

Eydie Gorme has a beautiful natural voice
Eydie Gorme has a beautiful natural voice. I enjoyed listening to "Gorme Country Style". The song selections were wonderful. However, some of the songs had a more authentic country flavor with singers such as Patsy Cline or Brenda Lee.

Eydie rips your heart out
Don't really like C&W music much. Bought this because it contains "It Takes Too Long To Learn To Live Alone," great song. Gorme will rip your heart out. The woman could sing. Even the Eddie Arnold and Patsy Kline stuff is good, though some of the rest is marginal.

Eydie Gorme -- Country Style
This is a killer album. Great songs and of course, she is the best. I first bought a vinyl when it first came out, then I bought the cassette and now I have the CD.

BACK WHERE IT BELONGS!
I'm so elated that Amazon has GORME COUNTRY STYLE again in stock. This album is the crowning achievement of my entire music collection. The cd I had to own. I've never gotten sick of it! I wanted the lp so badly that I got 2 copies for Xmas 1964. At this point in time, Eydie Gorme's voice was simply superb. She used her full range to the fullest. Naturally Eydie's voice was citified on the 12 orginal numbers but the integrity of each song is untarnished. Eydie's covers of those big cross-over hits that were familiar to me were improvements over the originals. On END OF THE WORLD, I'M SORRY, YOU DON'T KNOW ME, NO ONE TO CRY TO, I WALK THE LINE, OH LONESOME ME, CRAZY, MAKE THE WORLD GO AWAY, & I CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU, Eydie reinterpretated them with her vibrant wide ranging voice. Ray Charles, Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson, & Johnny Cash didn't have the emotional nor artistic range to do what Eydie did to these too often unsung gems. Granted all 4 singers were superb song stylsists & Patsy had a respectable range but their arrangements were hampered by the mandatory back up voices, or uneccessary talking in the middle of the song, or corny string work. Eydie's versions of the above 9 chart makers were done in a timeless, aesthetic versions where the orchestra improves on her crystal clear intpretations. I've never heard better versions of the 3 tunes that were hits before my time: I REALLY DON'T WANT TO KNOW, I CAN'T HELP IT, & SOMEDAY. Eydie out performs Linda Ronstadt, Mary Ford, & Della Reese on those 3 timeless laments. On OH LONESOME ME, I WALK THE LINE, & SOMEDAY, Eydie really swings & went full range on the notes. She just soared! It's really indescriable! The bouns tracks are alright but I rather not comment on them because I'm so focused on the 1st 12 tracks. I hope everybody enjoys this treasure as much as I do!
