No , it is Designed to be used on a Metal surface with Magnet switch On

What is the diameter of the gauge’s stem (I need 3/8"=9.5mm diameter for my application)? Can multiple plungers be connected to extend the length?

The diameter of the gauge’s stem is 3/8"=9.5mm. You could add a plunger to extend the length as the contact tips can be changed. However I'm afraid of that would affect the precision. The toltal length for the stem and plunger is 1.9inch=48mm (not included the tip length).
