CREATESPACE Commodity Conversations: An Introduction to Trading in Agricultural Commodities

A valuable insight into the real world of commodity merchants
This book is a great introduction to the physical and financial trade in agricultural commodities. It includes interviews with physical grain traders, hedge fund managers and futures exchanges that delve beneath the surface of how agricultural commodities end up on your dinner plate. The author does a good job of dispelling the frequent concerns that erupt over the impact that speculators have on the price of food. Often vilified, speculators provide a valuable service in transferring risk away from physical buyers and seller while also helping to anticipate potential deficits or surpluses.

informative and good read
Jonathan Kingsman's book is a good introduction to the Commodities market. After his earlier work 'The Sugar Casino' which I read with great interest I had no hesitations to order this one as well. The packing was non existant and so some pages got creased, good I was not planning to give it away. Why is everything wrapped but not a book which gets sent with ruler, toys?

If I was not familiar with agricultural trading landscape I would probably give the book a less favorable rating. I recommend reading Dan Morgan's "Merchants of Grain" first if the reader is not familiar with agricultural commodity markets. The book is appropriately titled and the conversations are both diverse as well as informative. The conversation format make for easy reading. If you are looking for commodity forecasts and or detailed technical knowledge this isn't the book.
