The base frame is 15-3/4" wide by 14" deep, and is hinged flush (even) with the front of the drawing board when it is folded flat.

It has a ledge at the base that would hold a sketch pad nicely. Probably even better than single paper.

Yes i have! Its a good size for smaller paintings if you dont like the edges hanging off. That was my issue with using it, I usually do pretty big paintings
