The Morakniv Classic Scout 39 is a traditional outdoor knife with double finger protection and a stainless steel blade featuring a blunt safety tip and a black leather sheath. It's an ideal first knife for young people learning knife skills. Like all Morakniv stainless steel knives, the Scout 39 is ideally suited for marine, fishing, outdoor and construction applications, where knives see hard use and are commonly exposed to dirt and moisture. The chromium content of stainless steel makes them less susceptible to corrosion and oxidation than carbon steels, giving them a longer life overall. Morakniv knives are made from high-quality Sandvik steel, characterized by ultra-fine carbides that result in superb forging and hardening properties. The absence of large carbide deposits promotes excellent edge sharpness for optimum cutting performance. Morakniv has been manufacturing the highest-quality knives in Mora, Sweden since 1891. Professionals worldwide trust the quality materials and fine craftsmanship of Mora Knives. Mora knives feature ergonomically-designed handles and employ premium-quality knife steel that is optimally adapted to the task for which the knife is intended. Total length: 7 inches (178 mm); blade length: 3.3 inches (85 mm); blade thickness: 0.08 inches (2.0 mm); weight: 2.4 oz. (69g). Limited lifetime manufacturer's warranty.

Great first all-purpose camping or carving knife for kids
I bought this for my nine-year-old daughter as a general camping and carving knife. Pocket-knives are great, but I prefer these because they are more substantial, so safer to use for carving. They also don't fold, which seems to be how I cut myself on pocket knives. The end is blunted for safety, but the blade (which is good quality) is very sharp. The sheath is a nice touch (leather, but lower quality) for added appeal.Although a children's knife, it is still a knife, but a great (probably the best) option for adults wanting to teach children responsible use.

Just like my old scout knife
i bought this knife for one of my kids to they can learn how to properly use a knife. With the blunted tip I do not have to worry about her stabbing herself. The thing is still Swedish steel and will definitely hold an edge so there is still some risk. However since it is sharp that risk is less then with a dull knife.

Great beginner's knife for children
I got this for my boys that where 6 and 7 at the time and the simple design coupled with the finger guard allowed me to teach them how to properly use the knife and limit the risk of them cutting themselves. The knifes came super sharp and in excellent condition from the factory. I did ding them 1 star barbecue the sheath snap pops open very easily at first but that was quickly fixed by tapping the male end of the snap buckle with a small hammer to make the face of the snap a bit wider.

Best knife for 13 year old
For my son's 13th birthday I wanted to get him his first knife. I did an exhaustive internet search on "first knives" and this one came up many times. And I agree, it's perfect! It is easy for smaller hands to use, it looks great on a belt, and it is very sharp. The handle is unfinished, which is ok. Finishing it will be a great project.I am very happy with it and I reccomend this knife!

Good Knife.
If I can give any advice to a parent buying a knife for a kid under 13 it would be to try to keep the blade length shorter than their index finger so that when they hold the knife and point their finger, their finger is very near the tip of the blade. The reason for this is that your kid will have an eyes closed awareness of their finger length and therefore blade length and will be less likely to stab themselves. The 85mm blade is going to be longer than your kids index finger but fortunately the last little section isn't sharp so they got that going for them. The knife is light, has a great blade, easy to sharpen compared to other knives. It comes razor sharp from the factory so make sure you want that for your kid. The knife is small, I have a bigger hand and would not use this knife for myself but for my kids it is great. Also the sheath is synthetic and seems pretty durable. It is a winner. Now if you like to shop for knives then throw this one into your cart keep looking. I shopped a lot and decided on this one and bought one of the classics for myself. I am giving the Mora Scout Safe 4 stars because the handle is unfinished and we're going to have to oil it. Easy.

Perfect first knife for kids.
Great first knife for young ones. Can't pinch fingers like a pocket knife and tip is just rounded enough to not worry about stab injuries. Guard prevents little hands from slipping onto blade. Simple construction. Nothing fancy. Sheath motivated my seven year old to wear a belt! Perfect first knife to learn safe use.

Good trainer knife for the young'ins.
I got this for my son. He likes it. The point is dull so there is less chance of a puncture wound. The knife is otherwise sharp. It helps kids to focus on the proximal part of the blade close to the handle for more controlled whittling. I took off a star because it would be better as a half guard only and the sheath is a little flimsy.

Get One - You'll Love It
As a first knife, this is much safer than a folding knife, which can fold in on inexperienced fingers. For outdoor use, it's close to perfect for all-around camping, hunting, and for carrying as a boot knife. Also an excellent boner knife for meat prep. Mora gets a big A+ both on overall design, and quality of the SHARP blade.

Good Small Kife
Excellent small knife, imagine a full tang slightly larger Swiss Army knife, but overall a well made, reliable knife.
