Great read, the second time as much as the first.
Remy is such an adorable guy, no wonder Laurence can’t resist him. And Laurence is the perfect broody hottie no one seems capable of resisting, even me. These two make a lovable, amusing, and sexy pair, and I’m really looking forward to their next adventure. The rich world of witches, vampires, and werewolves, all living beside the unsuspecting humans, is well-crafted and intriguing, and holds tons of potential as the series continues. Great read, the second time as much as the first.

3.5 rounded up to a 4.
Beneath The Opal Arc; rating: 4/5Laurence is a vampire and an old one at that, not the oldest but he's definitely not young.Remy is a very powerful witch, who singlehandedly prevented more loss of lives. Having done so, that puts his life in peril... Until a vampire swoops in and saves him.Together these two journey through different towns, swims across frigid waters, sleepovers in cemetery's, along with Remy spending time with not only humans, but also vampires. This book had a whole lot of action in it! Most of this book was focused on the war that broke out between the witches, werewolves, and the vampires. There were very detailed action scenes, along with really great world building. The characters themselves were great, I enjoyed how Remy and Laurence complimented the other's personality. I enjoyed seeing how Remy slowly but surely worked his way into Laurence's heart. Along their journey we also 'met' more characters! We got introduced to Livia who's Laurence's friend as well as being older than Laurence. Then we met Clara while Remy was staying in her town, then Evanora! I adored her, she's such a great grandmother and she cares deeply about her grandson. One thing I'm going to note is Clara and Remy's character are very similar... The two major differences is their genders, then of course Remy being a witch. But other than those two things, their characters are almost identical, which is kinda disappointing, but it didn't deter from the story.I'm about to hop into the next book cause I'm very eager to find out what happens on their journey to discover the secrets Valeri wants them to discover.

Fun read, memorable characters, steamy romance
I really enjoyed this book. It’s a romance told from two points of view. I like both the characters, but Remy kind of steals the show. So lovable, vulnerable and powerful. A very interesting combination. The story is fast-paced from the beginning, though the romance takes a slower start. A few very hot sex scenes. I will definitely read book two.

Good start, but…
I read this story after finishing Mongrel, which I though was a better story. I like the premise of this one but, and while I liked the characters, it felt like something was missing; like we weren’t given the entire picture. Remy, the witch, pressented mostly as an inexperienced, naive boy, matched against the more worldly vampire Laurence. Their interactions were more like Remy following Laurence like a love-sick puppy and I never quite felt the heat between them. A lot of things were never fully explained; a necessary part of world building in the first of a series. The story begins in the middle of a war and then Remy, who just saved everybody, having to run for his life. The final confrontation was just messy. I found it difficult to envision the scene and separating who’s who. The outcome presented an interesting twist but again, I felt like something was missing. This also lost star points with me because you have to sign up for a newsletter and then download a “bonus scene” to get a further glimpse of Remy’s and Laurence’s HEA. I absolutely hate when authors do that! Sorry, that’s just the way I feel.Remy and Laurence will be part of the next story, but considering Valeri, one of the lead MCs in the next, was made out to be such a loathsome creature, I’m not so sure I want to continue.

Exciting start
An exciting start to this series. While trying to prevent his fellow witches from destroying the werewolves, Remy creates an arc over the land. He didn't expect to get rescued by the handsome vampire Laurence. Laurence leads Remy on a journey to the vampire council hoping that will help offer some type of protection. Their journey is filled with action, meeting old and new friends, and romance. I really enjoyed this book and loved the connection between Remy and Laurence. I am looking forward to reading more about them in the next book.

Can love be found amidst a dangerous war?
4 adventurous stars (***Mild spoilers***) When Remegius (Remy), a powerful male witch, is rescued by Laurence, a young-ish male vampire with desires for the witch, thus begins the adventure of their young lives. Using his powerful magic, Remy has defied his Elders by creating a protective arch to prevent an all out war between werewolves, witches, vampires and humans. Now the Elders want Remy dead for his betrayal. Laurence, with growing feelings for the young, handsome witch, offers to find him protection and safety by asking The Twelve, a council of ruling vampires in his home castle., to allow the witch to live among them. With help from all four groups, the pair survive numerous life-threatening attacks on their journey. All the while, their feelings for each other deepen and the heat between them gradually goes from a spark to a bonfire. Written using the dialogue of the time period (Which added believability to the tale), excellent world-building that makes every scene real and believable and a deft melding of multiple storylines, this book is an awesome beginning to this four book series. I fully intend to read all four books by year's end. Adventure, danger and spice come together in a wonderfully conceived story.

Think of a paranormal Indiana Jones and you will have a good idea of what to expect from this book.
Think of a paranormal Indiana Jones film and you will have a good idea of what to expect from this book.We have Vampires, witches, and werewolves. Witches and werewolves are at war.Remmy is a young very powerful witch, that after finding out he was about to be used to wipe out All creatures by the leaders of the witches. He uses his magical powers to place an arc between the realms of the witches and earth.Laurence is A Vampire messenger that witnesses Remy’s spell being placed. When the werewolves threaten to kill Remy, Laurence vows to protect the young witch, and they start a long journey full of mistrust of each other at first. But they begin to trust one another as they journey towards Laurence’s hometown. The chemistry between them is strong and I loved the banter. But what I liked most is that although Laurence is protecting Remy. Remy is by no means a weakling as in so many stories like this one.The characters come to life with the authors rich descriptions of their personalities. The secondary characters are also well defined and play important parts in the story and not just there to make up the numbers. The story world is excellent, and I felt like I was on the journey through the woods and marshes with them. The magic was so well thought out and presented to the reader, and only used in the story when it was needed and made sense. The pace was well balanced, and though it is a fast-paced story, it did not feel rushed. The characters had time to rest when they really needed too.I only recently found Lee Colgin through her Forbidden (Werewolf / Vampire) series which I recommend anyone who enjoys this book to check them out.A thoroughly exciting and enjoyable read with a little humour, a little danger and just a pinch of mystery and suspense. And let me tell you the ending is epic.Their journey continues in book 2, Across the Sapphire Sea, though they are not the main characters of the book.

Creative and sensual
This is a great start to what I hope to be an excellent series. A creative and fun run from danger into a full on war.

Good book
Good story!but everything (witch hunt) seems to resolve itself a bit too quickly with the witches. It Is either a plot twist in later books or a weak part in the plot line.I also don’t like how feeble and weak everyone are unless they are bullies, the MC or two thousand years old vampires. In a world of supernatural it feels a bit off to have so few powerhouses.Otherwise the story is nice, the MC interactions together or with their friends/ family is interesting. The pace of the story is good. The two MC’s behaviour and beliefs are put into context & work seemlessly.

Enjoyable read
Laurence is captivated by a vulnerable witch casting an incredible spell. When the witch is injured by a werewolf, Laurence rescues him, and the adventures begin. This was an enjoyable, easy read. Both Laurence and Remy are lovable characters that you can relate with straight away, even if they are a vampire and a male witch. Remy is vulnerable and innocent. Laurence experienced and world weary. Laurence feels a need to protect Remy from himself and the world. With enemies all around, keeping Remy safe proves to be a challenge that peaks the vampire's interest.Exhausted by the incredible magic Remy has performed, he reaches out to his unexpected rescuer for strength, and finds more than he expected. Just drawing on his energy soon becomes not enough for Remy. Although Laurence tries to protect Remy's virtue as well as his life, you know that is not going to happen and at some point, in the dingy crypts Laurence keeps finding for them to hide in, you know his resolution is going to fail. You want it to, as Laurence is a really nice character and you want him to find a worthwhile relationship and a companion. As Laurence's maker turns up, and threatens to disrupt both Laurence and Remy's life, it becomes a lot more interesting as they try to navigate the paranormal politics of their world. An enjoyable adventure, with well drawn characters and a touch of M/M romance. What's not to enjoy? I see there is a second book out as well, even better!

Great start to the series
What an interesting and captivating read! I couldn't help by love Remy and Laurence - both were fun characters and their chemistry was scorching! The story flowed smoothly and had great momentum, and the worldbuilding was well done. The ending I found a little rushed and wished we had more detail with those happenings (and yes, I'm being vague deliberately so as not to give away spoilers). I'm definitely looking forward to more in the series, and am keen to read more by this author as well.
