Spicy
It's been a problem, for me, that most vegan/vegetarian backpacking food is overly spicy. The ingredients just say 'spices' but it's pretty hot for someone who likes 0* Thai. The flavor wasn't bad, but after five bites, I was having to force myself to eat until I was just done. Also, it needed more time to soak-the beans stayed kinda crunchy. And it gave me horrible gas, of which I was very apologetic to my tent-mate.On another note, I REALLY REALLY appreciate having vegan backpacking food options.

Beans never fully hydrated in the bean and veggie soup
I bought a couple of these kits so far, and have tried the bean and veggie soup. The first time I cooked it, I followed the instructions, exactly- the beans were hard And the carrots were chewy. So I threw it all in a pan and simmered it on the stove. It never really got any better. I contacted the company, and they sent me a replacement bag. When I prepared that, I pretty much had the same problem with the beans , except the carrots were not chewy. Not sure what’s going on . The flavor was good…. And I suppose in a SHTF situation it wouldn’t matter as much . However, I want these meals for non-catastrophic events .
