Galaxy S II: The Missing Manual
D**D
Thank you once again Preston Gralla
I already have the Missing Manual for my Motorola Xoom and it has been a great help in getting my head around Android. When I bought my new phone last week I asked the assistant in Carphone Warehouse whether it came with a manual, 'no' he replied, 'it's intuitive'. Well up to a point it is and I've found my way around the basic functions through a lot of trial and some error. Unless you know the phone is capable of performing a particular function, you won't look for it and then you're not getting the most out of it. This is why I bought the book, to ensure I'm not missing out on anything and to have something to refer to if I run into difficulties. It wouldn't appeal to the 'techy' but I don't think it's particularly meant to. For someone like me - non-techy but with a reasonable grasp, it's ideal. Simple instructions in an easy to understand format and lots of useful tips.

A much needed book
This is our first smart phone and I really don't know how to use it. There are so many bells and whistles that I know I am not using to full advantage. I really needed this instructional manual. I only gave it 4 stars because I haven't yet had the time to study it.

Good beginning
I was clueless when I got my first smart phone. It did not come with a manual and was an older model. I searched around on the internet to find out how to use the thing and did find some tutorials. However I thought it would be nice to have an old fashioned manual. This book is some what of a disappointment to me. The grayish photos or illustrations are not very clear. I did successfully set up some email for myself but then had difficulty when I wanted to go beyond yahoo and gmail, which already had widgets on the phone. I went to the t-mobile store for help.So - this book was useful, but I found asking people to help me and watching what they did, and watching tutorials on the computer, to be the most useful for me.

I wanted more...
Due to this book getting 'lost in the post', by the time it actually arrived from amazon, I'd had some time to play with my new toy.I'd been hoping this book would fill in the gaps, and yes, it did have some helpful tips - but it was written for a US market and much of the terminology was American, and the Galaxy SII clearly has some differences in the US, so some information was irrelevant or just unhelpful. Plus the order of the content isn't the most logical. If the galaxy SII comes without a manual because it is intuitive (and sometimes it isn't) then this book is definitely not intuitive!

A good review for this manual.
I find this a very useful book - comprehensive and not too difficult to understand. A worthwhile purchase. I have recommended it to my friends.
