Dark Highway (Jessica Shaw Book 3)

Brilliant!
Just as I think another Jessica Shaw book couldn’t get any better, it does. First of all I love the character. She reminds me of Lucky Santagelo in Jackie Collins’ novels. Lisa Gray weaves quite a story. It is written beautifully and keeps you in suspense until the very end. I was completely glued to it and could not put it down. The only problems was that it was very difficult to follow all the characters in the beginning. There was a little predictability about it, although I didn’t know how it all tied together. It was emotional, shocking, suspenseful and at times a bit graphic. However, it worked. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series and am already upset that the fourth book will be last. Please write others!

#abrknpoet reviews Dark Highway
Dark Highway by Lisa Grey is a gripping thriller that follows Detective Jessica Shaw as she investigates a series of murders linked to her own past. The book is fast-paced and full of twists and turns that keep the reader hooked until the end. The author does a great job of creating a dark and suspenseful atmosphere, as well as developing the main character's complex personality and backstory. However, the book also has some flaws that might disappoint some readers. For example, some of the secondary characters are not very well fleshed out and seem to serve only as plot devices. The dialogue can also be a bit cheesy and unrealistic at times, especially when it comes to the romantic subplot. The ending might also feel a bit rushed and anticlimactic for some, as it leaves some loose ends unresolved.Overall, Dark Highway is a solid thriller that will appeal to fans of the genre who enjoy a fast and exciting read. It is not a perfect book, but it is certainly entertaining and engaging.4.1 stars

So Good
I’m going to start off by saying that if your new to this author than you should definitely read this book. This is the second book I’ve read from them and have not been disappointed. The plot from this book is well written and keeps the reader engaged. The author made sure to add dimensions to this story’s characters so we see different sides of their personalities. It hits home how in our society, victims of violence do not always get justice and things are not always what they seem. I also liked the fact that this book more-so focused on the mystery surround those missing women versus the romantic life of the MC. The epilogue was classic and leaves you wanting more from this series.

A good vacation read
I started reading this book on vacation, and became enthralled with it on the plane ride home. I read a few chapters each night before bed, but fatigue would set in and I didn’t really get deep into it until we were coming home and then I didn’t want to put it down. Is it a literary masterpiece? No. But is it intriguing, and a well thought out story? 100%. If you’re looking for something to grab your interest and entertain you, I’d recommend this book. My only complaint is there are some misspelled words throughout the book, which I find really tacky in professional publishing.

Choices
Not sure why I chose that title for the review however I think it was an underlying theme of this story. I really enjoyed the book and was starting to put things together but, as usual, Lisa Gray had a couple more surprises up her sleave. Oh, I don't miss the Epilogue! Makes you wonder....

Mixed Reaction
Originally I was going to give the Dark Highway 2⭐⭐. I started reading this series after the release of the first book, read the second book...and decided to quit reading the series. I thought the plots were intriguing, I really liked the Matt Connors character. But Jessica Shaw can be such a nasty character that I can't like or sympathize with her. Dark Highway was much the same. The story was intriguing. There were some clever twists and turns. The ending was great. But, there is still Jessica Shaw.******* spoiler *******As an example, Matt is supposed to a horrible person. I will focus on this specific book. Matt doesn't hear from, nor see, Jessica for a lengthy amount of time. She comes back to him, she finds him, she asks him for a job at his detective agency. But she keeps saying she can't trust him. But she needs him for her P.I. license, not the other way around. She comments that she had a relationship during that time they were apart, but speaks of him as though he has done something indecent by also being in a relationship. He kisses her, but knows he's wrong so stops before it goes too far and does not have sex with her. But the situation with her anger towards him is misplaced. Then, as her boss, he tells her she needs to work on paying clients but she argues, like that is her right. Again, she came to him for the job not the other way around. In the end I would have preferred if they both worked on paying clients and in the off time continued working the Twenty-nine Palms case together. Jessica could quit acting like a twelve year old with a grudge and the book would not have been so off putting.*********end spoiler*********In the end I gave 3⭐⭐⭐ because the ending was interesting. The series would be so much better, IMO, if Jessica Shaw was not such a hot mess inflicting her issues on other characters and we could focus on the intriguing cases. I won't be reading the next installment.

Brilliant thriller
I've been a fan of Lisa Gray since Thin Air. The prickly private investigator who had started with her own missing case when she was a kid. Each book in the series surpasses the previous one. Dark Highway was about a missing girl whose disappearance connects her to two more missing women through a highway. As Jessica Investigates further she finds there are more things in common to the girls other than the highway that leads back to several years ago. Typical to Gray's narrative style, the story jumps between past and present and the suspense is slowly revealed through different characters' pov. A brilliant read. Would suggest to every thriller junkie. Waiting for the 4th Jessica Shaw thriller.

Full of suspense, well written, loads of twists and turns!
I don’t go for crime thriller type genres too often but so glad I picked this one! Easy to get into, well paced and a really solid plot. SO many twists and actually very believable. Will definitely read more by this author. Characters were interesting and I made myself concentrate reading certain parts carefully so I didn’t miss anything! I believe this was part of a series but no need to have read the previous books to understand the plot. Really enjoyable read

Good yarn, easy read, highly unlikely...
I enjoy Lisa Grey because she tells a good story and has an easy written style.Jessica Shaw, the series star, again pursues her inebriated journey, albeit with slightly less alcohol and casual sex with the wrong people than previous volumes, making remarkable deductions helped by improbable coincidences and unprofessional revelations from her sources. In this volume, she makes more decisions while sober, which does add to the credibility. The plot is plausible, if unlikely, and yields a good number if twists and revelations to tempt you to read it in one go.The narrative jumps about in time and characters, and with 5 victims plus 2 villains and various damaged or errant other actors can be difficult to remember who is who. But keep at it...Still, it comes a a satisfactory ending with sufficient credibility in the closing twists that you don't regret bothering.
