Couldn't put it down
I devoured this book over the holidays. Highly recommend it.Here's something that struck me as comical. The author occasionally refers to theatre critic Michael Riedel with disdain. I borrowed Riedel's book, Singular Sensation, from the library 6 months ago and only finished it after reading Berger's book. Although it was somewhat insightful, Riedel's book was nowhere near as well written.

A 'Must Read' for anyone interested in the theatre
A brilliantly written book and (cliche warning) a real page-turner.This is not just a journalistic reporting of all the pitfalls incurred in putting on a staggeringly difficult show. The people involved are brought to life by the author - and he was one of them. Glen Berger has managed to tell the story with an extrodinary degree of detachment given how involved he was personally. His thoughts, observations and commentaries are really perceptive, honest and at times, very comical. I ended up feeling very sorry for all the hard-working, dedicated people who gave so much to the enterprise. This is an excellent read and I can highly recommend it.

Great book about the life of a production
I'm a theater graduate and a comic fan so finding out the exaistance of this book had slipped by me was a shock.Quite a few reviews here complain of the authors worship of Taymore and yes at certain parts they do get gushy and a bit irritating but as the story progresses he seems to be trying to paint Taymore as more of a horrible person in the nicest way possible. Such examples as towards the end of the shows connection with her she became near impossible to reason with. She would also fly off the handle and refer to any little change as a "mastectomy to her art".The book offers lots off fun and interesting tidbits not only into the life of a theater production but certain creative changes that were all hard fought for and along the way you do really get a glimpse of what they wanted this show to be. As well as fun little side stories where they were trying to hide a scene where Peter says "s***" from marvels creative consultant Joe Quesada. My one really complaint with this book is that as a comic fan my mind was baffled when Taymore announced the character Swiss Miss as part of the shows line up of villains which had supposedly come to her in a dream. Not once is she nor her creation or the backlash this created from comic fans who felt this spot could be better filled mentioned.Otherwise couldn't put it down highly recommended.
