I like the device
I like the device. It gives me a sense of security when I am alone. I did have some trouble with it not maintaining a charge, however. I called customer service during the busiest hours, and finally got a response. The representative was courteous, knowledgeable and helpful. He checked the manual, had me turn it off and on. He said they would replace it if it failed to maintain a charge. After that, I figured out the problem. I have the charger on the edge of my nightstand. When I charge the device at night, the lanyard with the magnet closure hangs over the edge. What I discovered is that the magnetic closure is heavy enough to lift the device slightly out of the charger. It appeared to be charging properly, but was not. Since then, I make sure the magnetic closure is on the top of the nightstand, and not hanging over the edge. Problems solved. I would recommend this device. It is portable and does not require a base station. The signal works almost everywhere I travel, with the exception of some places in the basement of the large building where I work.

Overall this item is reliable and works well to do what it is supposed to do. On one occasion the alert button was pressed inadvertently. The response was quick and went to the listed emergency contacts. However, the caller ID for the responder showed "unavailable" as the party calling. For those of us who rely on caller ID to screen calls this is unacceptable. A company that is trying to promote their reputation should be proud of who they are when they call but such was not the case.

Be free and Lively, I love 5-Star and the Lively device.
This is a exceptional device. I especially like that pretty much no matter where I go in the great USA, it works. Originally got these for my wife who could not speak very loud and the 1st landline device could not hear her even when sitting next to it. With this around her neck she could always here the Great Call people and they could always hear her. I don't like having things around my neck so I use it with a clip and hang it under my shirt on the v-neck of my T-Shirt. That way it is always easy to reach and doesn't go anywhere. My wife and mother-in-law also had 5-star devices before they passed and we used them for emergencies (911 calls), and also used the ability to track location to keep tabs on my mother-in-law when she was out for bingo. I use it because if I am in an auto accident there is no guarantee I'll be able to use the phone (or even find it). I also have had the occasional slip and fall or trip and fall and this device is alway just a button res away. I have pressed the button on more than one occasion, most notably when my wife passed away, and the Great Call staff is outstanding. I cannot say enough good things about them. Battery life is more than adequate, I wear mine from 5am until 1 or 2 am and have never had an issue. It also recharges very fast. Great Call also has a very complete online information sheet all users should fill out. I want them to know as much as possible about me so if I need them they have the info they need about me.

Great Call should revisit the docking station design
My mother had the GreatCall 5Star Urgent Response Medical Alert Device for over two years. The two times she fell she was able to use it to get help. The device really did save her life the first time she fell. We got her the Lively Alert with fall detection in case she falls again and is unable to push the button. (She still wants to live in her own place.) We just received the Lively Alert and accidently activated it before we realized the charger did not work. Big mistake. Make sure the charger works first. We are waiting on a replacement charger from Great Call. I understand the charging docking station will be much easier to use than to plug in the mini-usb cord into the old device, but I think it was a bad engineering decision to make the cord from the charger to the docking station proprietary. Should have been a simple matter to plug another common cell phone charger into the docking station. I hope Great Call fixes this problem for future users. Meanwhile we have to wait for the Great Call replacement charger to arrive to restore protection for my mother. As far as the product concept goes, it really does work to save lives.

Very disappointing change to 5-Star Device
I bought this as an upgrade from the original 5Star device which was wonderful. I am a long time user of the wonderful 5Star service and my old device wore out. The new Lively Mobile has a few major drawbacks. First, it has very limited battery life requiring at least daily charging. I could live with that if it used a USB charger which I could plug in by my bed but it requires a cradle and a dedicated plug which is not practical for me. This makes the unit not useful for me either at night or during the day which means it is useful 50% of the time. The second problem is the flashing light. This is anoying and probably contributes to the poor battery life. Because I depend on the 5-Star service I will suffer through these major inconveniences but hope they will come out with an improved model with no light and at least a ups charger without a cradle.

I activated the device with no issues. It does work. Had to use it for my mother to go to ER. Peri-medics arrived within a short time. 5 Star on other end was very courteous and patient. Very realiable device. Thank You. Activated item just in time.

Excellent delivery and everything as promised... Speaker could be a little bit better for older hard of hearing users.

Great call replaced it promptly and cheerfully
First unit lasted almost a week. Great call replaced it promptly and cheerfully. Replacement unit failed after about a week. I wear a pacemaker and we believe that it has a compatibility problem with the Lively. My wife also has a Lively and it works just fine. Obviously we are watching it closely. The company service is great, just be aware of the possible pacemaker problem.
