Good toy, needs to be a little stronger. Edit: They are making and XL version and replacing broken one.
Tether Tug Dog Toy for Medium & Large Dogs My dog loves/loved this thing. It took her a little while to understand how to play with it, but when she did she would go nuts. I got the large one and it seemed to not be tall enough for my German Shepard. She broke it after about 2-3 weeks just above the mounting stake. Just contacted the company about it and will see what customer service is like. I have see reviews that say they are good at replacing there product.EDIT: So I just wrote this a minute after I contacted the company about it breaking. By the time I was done they had already sent me an E-mail."We are so sorry to hear about your Tether Tug breaking. We handmake each tug here in Missouri, and unfortunately sometimes we have a defect in the materials or process. We will gladly send you a new Tether Tug ASAP. We are finalizing an "XL" version of the Tether Tug and should have it on the market by the end of the week, and will send you one of those as soon as we release it. It has a much stronger core and should hold up much better for you."So I I am Very Happy with this product and company. The Dog is too! Woof Woof.

happily played with it for several minutes while I encouraged ...
So, I got the Tether Tug and placed it in the ground just as the instructions said. Our dog, a 10 month old Golden Retriever, happily played with it for several minutes while I encouraged and watched. I walked into the house to do some work. By the time I returned to our dog, he had pulled the pole out of the ground and chewed the the rope so the pull toy can no longer be hooked at the pole. The ring that the chew rope connects to is gone. There is no way to connect a new toy. I cannot tell you how disappointed I am. It looks to me like the Tether pole has to be cemented into the ground in order for a large dog to not pull it out. The picture you provide in the advertisement is absolutely not accurate without some kind of help keeping the pole in the ground. This is an expensive toy to have been destroyed within 2 hours of play. : (

Failed within 3 weeks
My 7 pound puppy LOVES this toy - BUT - it is just not a good design. The base (held in place by chair leg) is too large in diameter for the flexible pole. This causes TWO problems; 1) the rubber at the bottom of the pole has already come apart, and 2) because the base is so much larger than the pole, my small puppy just pulls the pole out. Good idea - poor execution.

Great idea but may need some improvement
I wish I could give this 5 stars but we had some issues with the toy before I could even get my dogs playing with it. Now this may not be the products fault but I think the design may need some improvement. I had probably put a half dozen holes in my property trying to find a place that would securely hold the tug toy in the ground. Again, this is probably because my soil is so soft, but every time I hammered it into the ground, set it up, and got the dogs playing, they would pull the entire stake right out of the ground.Once I found a secure spot I started teaching the dogs how to play with it. Zoe was very excited at first and tugged away but at one point the toy bounced back and the metal carabiner bounced off the poll and made a loud clanking sound. She decided after that she would rather play with the tug toy if I was on the other end ,not the pole. So if you have a sensitive dog, this toy may not work. My other dog Colin had absolutely no interest in the toy at all. Again, not the toys fault I just have a lazy dog.So some of the cons I thought were worth mentioning:Better design for the stake to enable it to sit securely in any type of groundA larger tug toy that comes with the pole. It looks like the the toy they supply should have been with the smaller size tug pole. The metal carabiner that holds the tug toy should be replaced with something non metallic and one that can't open so easily.Positives:Great Idea! Given the right type of dirt to hold the stake and a dog that really really loves to tug, this toy is wonderful.

Missing pieces
*** Updating to 5 stars because the seller reached out to me and shipped the indoor adapter. My dog plays with this daily and loves it. ***First of all let me say my dog loves this toy...but I ordered the one that is supposed to come with the indoor base. I just received the tug pole with braided rope toy and the in-ground stake. Can't find anyway to contact seller to have them send the indoor adapter and only option was to return the whole thing. Decided to cut my losses and keep the parts I received because my girl loves it and I figured it would be a mostly outdoor toy anyway. Pretty expensive for a bendy fiberglass pole, with some braided fabric especially since it was missing probably the most expensive piece.

it did seem sturdy, However my problem was with the small cotton ...
The post had nics through it on as if paint was peeling, That went into the ground though so didn't really matter, it did seem sturdy, However my problem was with the small cotton braided rope that arrived, It was not for a larger dog, and was easily destroyed in under 3 minutes! I would have thought it be larger, but really that would not make a difference, I think a braided different type of rope more sturdy would be better suited for this item. I have a Pitt bull Mick who weighs 55 and chewed the rope and then strings of yarn can go in the mouth and potentially choke with these ropes for chewers.

It was really fun until it broke...
I bought this dog toy a while back it was awesome. I haven't got around to it until now but I am updating my review. After about 2 weeks the base of the pole broke off. It was still somewhat attached but it was made out of carbon fiber or something so it was fraying really bad and did not want my dog to get hurt so I threw it away. I was really happy with it and hope to get another some day but some re designing needs to be done on the base. Its pretty much a steel pipe smashed together on one end. Can be pulled out pretty easy.Pros:Really fun for dogsEasy to change out toys on the frontCan bend when dog pulls on itCons:Broke within 2 weeks...Really poor design on the baseCan be pulled out really easy

Looks like there was duct tape holding it
In the first 10 minutes of playing with it, the end of the rope came off. Looks like there was duct tape holding it???
