So good.
I could feel my shoulder wrenched and hurting, and all the other bruises and scars along the way. solid writing and a wonderful bantering humor

Surprisingly good
More comedic than serious but it’s entertaining.

Fantastic read!
You absolutely must read this book and its predecessor, The Black Hawks. David Wragg has created an amazing world with characters who feel like your own companions as they struggle to do the right thing. These are books I will be reading over and over.

Good read
Really loved book one and couldn't wait for book two's release. It was entertaining and action packed with great new characters. I'm not sure if the series will continue but hopfully this isn't the end.

Great book but there are flaws in the major characters that seem unrealistic
I have read both books. I would like to get them at five but I can’t. The Black Company is a small group of mercenaries. Chel is the son of a small landholder/barony(?). He is a squire but has never trained in military arms. Not to give up the plot, he and the second son of the king end up being part of and involved in the mercenary group. The King is dead. An older son becomes king but the plot turns in a way you would not expect. The clergy is involved and corrupt. A war for the throne erupts. Multiple nations and parties are involved. Throughout it, Chel remains naive, holds to standards that are untenable, and never learns to fight even as battles and conflict swirl around him. The second son of the king remains a coward at times, becomes somewhat princely at times when it needs to occur in front of other members of state of other countries, but unfortunately continues to be a spoiled rotten arrogant, egotistical, individual who learns nothing during his the whole ordeal. In the end he becomes king, as mentioned learned nothing during his experiences, returns home. After all the people that have died and suffered for him, he never learned to appreciate their sacrifices. Chel, at the end, rides off into the sunset, with no preparation, money, or arms. He too essentially learned nothing. To summarize, both of the main characters essentially never developed. Such a disappointment.

Great story.
It's good, well worth the read. I just wish there was more to it but I'll take what I can get. I fell like I was on the journey with them.

Action packed
This series has gotten better in this second book. The heroes are unique, the villains perfect, and the pace of the book is very well set.

I Need More Books in This Series!!!
This is the sequel to The Black Hawks and I loved it even more than the first! There was plenty of the snarky banter I enjoyed in book one, but this is much more balanced between that humour, and the horrible realities of war and choices made. For this reason it packed a more emotional punch.I've gained a much larger affection for Chel and his growth. Not just his character, but his actual role within the overall group. He's a catalyst for change within the other characters and I loved exploring that. At the end of the day this is really his story, as he gets caught up in events and continues to try and do the right thing in a world that makes it almost impossible to do so.The world is expanded more, as our illustrious rogues travel throughout the Empire trying to gain allies for their rebellion. The stakes also feel higher, and no one is truly safe - not that they were in the first book mind you - but the darkness and dangers of this world feel more immediate here. The characters get more depth, as their backstories are fleshed out and they are all the better for it. The plot and world feel more cohesive too. If the first book was a highly entertaining romp, this one retains that humour I loved, while also asking hard questions about choices made, and the consequences of those choices.I have had so much fun following Chel and The Black Hawks. I hope we get more books in this series, because I really want to go on more adventures with this group. Especially Lemon! Give me an entire book of Lemon making random comments about the world around her, it would probably be my book of the year lol.

So well written
Usually I don't like made up kingdoms and funny names I cannot remember but this is different. He writes with such description it makes it much easier to picture this mythical land of adventure and strange people. To me that's what allows the book to be so entertaining that the "adventure" gets through because that's what this book is and that's what I was looking for

Great sequel
This novel is the sequel to 'the Black Hawks. It follows to continuing saga of Chel and the merc unit as they try and stay ahead of their enemies.Fast paced and exciting this is a worthy sequel and end to the story. Funny and sad, brutal and heartfelt this ticks all the boxes of a page turner. Both books are well worth a read if you don't mind the language colourful and the fights bloody.

A good read.
Enjoyed the two books in the series. I found the 1st one to be slightly better but both are a decent read.

Outstanding......read thebtheb1stb book in days, and then a long wait for the 2nd. While worth it..
Just the best story I've read in a long time. If you have time on your hands and like an adventure which veers away from the usual then read these 2 books. Great characters that buck the genre. If these are his debut books then great things await.....
