Always rinse or$$$$$
No leak now, main thing to avoid is donโt leave the engine steering stored in the same position, alternate and make sure to wash off the steering system with fresh water religiously after use

Perhaps the easiest repair I have ever performed!
Perhaps one of the easiest installations/fixes I've performed on any outboard. I have 26' Boston Whaler Outrage with twin 225 Merc Opti's steered with one HC 5345 Sea Star / Teleflex cylinder. One original seal began to leak slightly, so I decide to rebuild myself. The kit comes with all of the instructions, the magic wrench, and the upgraded seals (glands as they are called in the instructions), as well as the o-rings incase you need to disconnect the hoses and/or bleed valves. I did not have to remove the cylinder from the boat (yes, correct, I left the cylinder attached), nor did I have to disconnect the hydraulic lines. I was able to unbolt the bolts from the end of the piston and undo the bolts at the swivel and as if by magic was able to unscrew the leaking seals and slide off. Reverse for installation of the new seals. FYI - the new glands have more pin holes, so you are able to get the wrench on at more various angles versus the old glands which only had four pin holes. The teflon looking adapter slides over the threaded ends of the cylinder during install, and makes it super easy to install the new glands onto the piston with no damage. This might be hard to believe, but if you follow the instructions and turn the steering wheel (hence move the piston) the way it indicates, you will hardly loose any of that expensive Sea Star steering fluid. I replaced both glands and lost maybe 2-3 ounces total; not even enough to have to bleed or add fluid. I will top-off at the helm, but the loss of only a very small amount of steering fluid was remarkable to me. Bravo to Sea Star for offering us a rebuild kit which was easy to install and includes straight-forward directions. It sure beats paying a marina to do this same work at 5x the price! Thanks for a super product!

Works Well - Save Money with SeaStar Seal Kit, HS5157, with Wrench
This kit has everything you need and saved lots of money on repairs. Watch YouTube for a 10 minute overview. The major issue is getting the brackets off. I used a drift pin, hammer and some penetrating oil. Don't bang to hard. Better many firm hits and more penetrating oil. Next challenge is to ensure the pins in the wrench seat well in old seals. The tool has a square whole to add a socket wrench for leverage. That work well for me. Seals fit well and went on smoothly. Good luck.

OEM Seals Great - Tool Completely Worthless (You must buy a better tool)
Great seals and Completely worthless tool - Far worse than feared. Tool is aluminum and bends easily - pin holes bent and pins fell out - 3/8 torque hole rounded before reach torque. I used huge pipe pliers to remove end-caps, which were destroyed by the pliers. I did my best to install caps with the tool. If they come loose, I'll cough-up for a real tool. The wheel puller tool is a must, otherwise you will damage the easily dinged hydraulic bar; which means replacing the entire unit (SUPER EXPENSIVE). I used extreme caution and Spiral Wrap Tubing to protect the bar. Because I dinged my previous bar.

These Seastar Seals actually work properly
This vendor delivered quickly and the Seastar Seals were originals by Seastar. Why does this matter? Most other sellers on Amazon are selling generic Seals made in China and I bought and installed a set of these generic ones 6 months ago without realising. They were so tight the steering wheel on the boat was almost impossible to turn and after months of laboured use they were still too stiff and starting to leak. eventually after scouring Amazon I realised they were not made by Seastar. These genuine seals work a dream and the steering is smoothe and there are no leaks. Buyer beware!
