An inexpensive Chromebook that exceeded expectations
I bought this Chromebook in December 2021, when it was at a discounted price on Amazon, and have been using it almost everday for the last 4 months. I had an HP Chromebook a few years ago and ended up selling it on as I found it a frustrating and limited device. Well, I'm happy to say that Chrome OS has come a long way since then and this little Asus is a nice handy device to have.If you are thinking of buying this please remember that Chrome OS is not meant to be a like-for-like replacement for Windows or MacOS. It's still heavily a web-based experience and you won't be able to run really heavy applications on this Asus. As long as you reaise that, then I don't think you'll be disappointed with this little laptop.I treat it mostly like I would treat a tablet - with the great addition of a decent keyboard and trackpad. So, watching streaming media, browsing the web, YouTube, checking social media, using emails all works great. In addition, it works really well as a casting device to send video to my TV via a Google Chromecast dongle.I've found the battery life is impressive too, easily seeing me through several hours use in a day (although I have found that streaming a movie to the Chromecast does hit the Asus battery quite hard). Charging time is pretty quick too with the supplied USB-C charger. The touchscreen is pretty good. There is a version of this Asus that comes with a stylus - but I don't have that. I've found the ability to flip the screen into a 'tent-like' configuration over handy when watching videos on the laptop. The speakers are OK and loud enough - unsurprisingly they won't win any hi-fi awards but they do the job nonetheless. The onboard webcam is equally OK, as are the microphones. Adequate for a video call in decent light but I would invest in a USB webcam for anything more demanding. I have not tried the second camera for photos - however I wouldn't expect much and will probably never use this to take photos in preference to my phone. If you have an Android phone, this Chromebook easily links to it and makes sharing photos/videos/music very simple. It can also read and show SMS texts and Whatsapp messages. There is a web store for Chrome OS apps and also access to the Google Play store to install familiar Android apps which is very useful. There isn't much on board memory, but there is a micro SD card slot to which I have added a further 64Gb of storage space for under £10.Performance-wise, the wake time from the sleep state the device goes into when you close the lid is almost instantaneous. i rarely ever shut it down fully as keeping it in a sleep-state does not seem to drain the battery much. All the apps load and run snapily and it doesn't ever seem sluggish to me. I cannot comment on using this Asus for gaming (I don't do that at all), but I would think you'd need a significant step up in CPU and graphics performance to do that kind of thing and that this Asus would not be for you.In summary, this Asus Chromebook has been a joy to use. My Windows laptop now sits idle most of the time as I find this little Chromebook ticks the boxes for my normal daily needs.

So good I've bought one for the wife
Cheap as chips, but good enough to run anything I've thrown at it so far including Prime, Netflix, BBC Iplayer & Ebay. Link it up with a mobile phone and you can use it to browse the net and such like away from a conventional wireless web connection. But be aware it doesn't come with 4 or 5gBuild quality is good considering the price and I love the way you can use it as a tablet with the screen being super responsive. One little miff was the fact it's advertised as coming with a USI stylus, but to be honest you don't really need it a sharpened stick will do the job just as well on this touchscreen and the trouble with a USI stylus is you only ever lose the darn things, a sharpened stick as I said works just as well 😄I personally own many other machines including an all singing and dancing desktop, but went for this as I wanted something I could just have beside me when watching TV and my Galaxy Tab8 died a painful death recently. This replaces that perfectly! The Chrome OS is fairly intuitive and very easy to find your way around The memory and hard drive space is adequate, if you need more space chuck a cheap Micro SD card in it. But if like me most of your files are uploaded to the cloud you it won't be a problem. Google gives you free access to 100GB storage free for a year as part of the bargain and there are plenty of other places on the web you can store files for free should you find the need. I've tried to play a few games downloaded from the play store and they function just fine ie. Candy Crush, Subway Surfers et al.So all in all my conclusion is seeing as it cheap as chips, comes from a reputable manufacturer who are offering a 3 year warranty on the machine, 1 year on the battery what's to dislike. If you want a good tablet with a good keyboard and want to watch films, surf the net, check your social media etc this is perfect. If you want a all singing and dancing play anything games machine buy a high end desktop/laptop.As I said I'm impressed enough to have ordered one for the wife as she's been struggling with a year old cheap £100 Android Chinese tablet, this machine knocks that hunk of junk clean out the window and I know she'll be happy as she's been coveting my Asus since it's arrived and trust me she's not a easy woman to please!

ASUS Chromebook Flip C214M NOT C214MA - No Stylus
Overall for £149 a great bargain, especially for potential new Chromebook buyers. Please do your homework before buying a Chromebook and check the Auto Update Policy (google it, there is a list of every Chromebook published by Google) to determine how much life support there is left. All Chromebooks are supported for 7 years from the day of release. This Chromebook is supported up until 2026. so thats not bad. Some retail outlets are currently selling Chromebook's on offer with only 6 months life support left.As for this tablet, great battery life.Android support is brilliant. As a test, games like Carmageddon work in tablet mode perfectly.I haven't enabled linux mode yet but will do.The display isn't bad and does go bright enough to be used outside. Touchscreen support is great.Built in tilt detection too. good for some android games.certainly built strong enough to be dropped. great for kids.Slightly heavy and the sound is quiet even at full volume but there is a workaround by installing a graphic equalizer extension onto chrome and the volume boost can be added.and finally, no there is no stylus. not a problem for me but some people may want this.
