Would this be safe if there were a fire?

I have no problem removing mine, takes me literally 2-4secs to remove. You should be fine, just practice attaching it and removing it for a day.

what happens incase of fire?

if the fire is already on the other side of the door with this lock then you can't touch the handle anyways. so if theres a fire just slide the lock off. practice taking the lock off too after you get it so you can do that as fast as possible in case of a fire
