A Lean Mean Ice Making Machine!
I love my new Silonn Nugget Ice Maker! I got it a couple of months ago and purposely waited a few months before reviewing it. This ice maker did not disappoint at all! As soon as I cleaned it and plugged it in, it went to work spitting out ice. It works well and the ice is perfect for drinks or chewing (iykyk). It's just as good as the ice you get from sonic (similar to hospital ice) but better because I now have an unlimited supply! I literally leave this thing on all day and night and it hasn't skipped a beat. I fill it up when I leave for work and there's always a bucket full of ice waiting for me when I get home. I use spring or distilled water in my machine and I run the cleaning feature at least once every two weeks. I haven't had any problems with it to date. The machine is not completely silent but it also isn't noisy. It doesn't take up too much counter space (I have a small kitchen with limited counter space so that was importantly for me) and it comes with a scooper and a hook for the scooper. The ONLY con I can think of (if we can really consider this a con) is that the suction cup that holds the hook onto the machine sometimes fails and lets the scooper fall off of the machine. But I can't even really count that as a con because it doesn't affect how the machine works at all! If you're in the market for an ice maker for your family this is the one! It easily provides ice for my family of 3. The ice that it makes is great and the machine looks good.

Best Little Ice Nugget Machine
Best decision to purchase this! I like to chew on ice and found that this ice machine makes the best nuggets. The machine is small so I have to refill a few times during the day but it also holds a decent amount of ice. I donโt mind the size as it quick to put out more ice after Iโve emptied it. Not too noisey other than when I first start it up. Easy to clean. Definitely worth it.

Fast, works well but quite loud
Overall it works great, no issues aside from noise. It works fast and keeps the ice going in the tub as long as itโs on. Iโd say itโs a bit louder than your microwave when itโs producing ice. Make sure to use filtered water with it though.

Great Value
After two years and two months of daily use, through two summers in the Deep South at a house with a pool, with guests for all the usual holidays AND including a full year as the sole ice maker for an adult couple...the fan quit. For about the last month it had been giving indications that something wasnโt normal. After 44 years of marriage, pattern recognition becomes a finely honed survival skill, so when a machine in the kitchen starts acting up you tend to notice it. This past Sunday afternoon I was dozing on the sofa ignoring the TV when this ice maker made a unique noise that woke me up. I canโt describe the actual noise it made (I was dreaming, I swear it shouted something at me) but it was weird enough that I went to check on it. The ice in the bin had melted, the back of the unit felt hot, and the fan wasnโt running. I quickly unplugged the machine without paying attention to the status lights (so unfortunately I donโt know what was displayed) and positioned a small desk fan blowing into the rear vent to cool it down. After 30 minutes I re-powered the unit and it started making ice again, except the exhaust fan was dead. I unplugged and drained it, then removed the rear cover (five screws on the bottom) and used the external fan for cooling to verify the ice maker still worked otherwise, which it did. The fan would start if I gave it an assist, but would not run full speed and would not restart on its own. After several hours I was confident a new fan would fix it. Exact replacement fans are plentiful and inexpensive here on everyoneโs favorite home shopping site, just search for the part number printed on the fan motor. For $17 a new fan arrived overnight. Removing the fan from the radiator is super easy (two obvious screws) however unplugging the fan from the controller board and fishing the power wire out with plug intact is extremely difficult. The controller board is mounted inside a plastic box, and getting the cover off the box without full disassembly requires a lot of cussing, needle nosed pliers, and at least one skinned knuckle. Once the controller cover is off, the fanโs power plug had a glob of hot glue covering it and the socket, and the wire was tie-wrapped in a spot that I couldnโt even see at first. The manufacturer doesnโt intend for you to remove this, and if youโre not careful youโll break the socket off the board or something else. There's lots of wires all bundled together, easy to mess up. If I were to do this again Iโd simply cut the wires to the old fan, careful to leave as much length as possible, and splice in the new fan using small wire nuts, or solder and shrink wrap if you prefer. Be sure to clean the dust from the backside/inlet side of the radiator (internal, facing the compressor) using a soft bristle toothbrush. Mine was completely blocked by dust, which is what caused the fan to fail in the first place. This unit does not have an air filter, so if you live in a dusty environment and/or have pets you probably need to open it up and clean the radiator once a year. Before you put the cover back on, blow the whole thing out with compressed air or a leaf blower. As to cleaning the actual ice making โwetโ section of this model, I use a hand held steam gun with a flexible nozzle about three times a year and it keeps it clean as new inside. No need for running vinegar through it, itโs not like a coffee pot and doesnโt develop calcium deposits. I use a mild bleach solution for running the built in cleaning cycle while blasting the top out with the steam gun, then thoroughly rinse out the whole thing using the sink hand sprayer. The mold/slime that will develop in the top of the unit comes from exposure to room air. Like most ice makers Iโve ever owned, itโs difficult if not impossible to access the actual ice tray section to hand clean it. AND every ice maker Iโve ever owned will develop mold wherever itโs regularly exposed to room temperature air, so the complaints Iโve read about this unit are not unique to this unit. If your refrigerator has an ice & water dispenser in the door, I discourage you from looking at it too closely with a flashlight or youโll stop using it. Anyway, the unit has been cleaned and reassembled and making ice again like it was new. While this particular machine has not been subjected to vibration like it might be in a motor home, or rough handling from potable use, it has run for over two (2) years continuously, sometimes needing multiple tank refills per day. I subtract one star for being moderately difficult to repair, but Iโd give it 10 stars if I could for being a great value for the money.

Best Sonic style ice machine Iโve ever owned!
Absolutely the best ice maker Iโve ever purchased! Iโm so pleased with this ice maker, and I have owned several different brands before it. We need the sonic style ice at our house. My last ice maker that made this type of ice did not last a year. I always kept it clean and did the descaling and everything else that was required. I have videos of how loud my previous ice machine was and it was difficult to clean, although it was highly rated on Amazon. There were very few reviews on this ice maker, but it seemed like such a logical piece of equipment to me, that I took a chance and Iโm glad I did! Itโs virtually silent, well worth what I paid for it even though I got it on sale and looks great in the kitchen. The ice may be a tiny bit bigger than sonic style ice but it still has the same soft and crunchy center as the ice Iโve bought at a Sonic Drive-In. The ice maker is a nice size and fits well, even in a smaller kitchen. The amount of ice it produces is great and the ice lasts for several days in the ice maker. Love the self-cleaning feature as well as itโs always cleaning in the background when itโs not making ice. It recycles the unused water through the machine so the ice tastes fresh and clean. The manufacturer suggests that you clean out the water portion of the machine every three days, which is so simple. Ice and water are stacked together on the right side of the machine, so all you have to do is lift this section off of the machine and you can run water through it or wash it with soapy water, whichever is applicable. I have not run the descaling cleaner portion yet, but I will at least once a month. Iโve had the machine about three weeks now and I could not be happier. It is everything I wanted and more. As Iโve have not had it that long, if the machine starts functioning poorly, I will come back and update this review. If youโre looking for a great ice machine, buy this one!

Money well spent!
I love this ice maker! Ive never owned an ice maker so I have nothing to compare it to, but I am beyond happy with my purchase. I got home late this evening from work and it was on the porch in the upright position. I did not see that its supposed to be upright for 24 hours before plugging it in until after I had it plugged in and making ice. Im hoping that didnt harm it, but its been making ice for a couple of hours and everything seems fine. It's started off kind of slow, a piece of ice here, a piece of ice there... but once it got going it really pumped out the ice. I used the scoop to move the ice around in the basket a couple of times because it will get backed up before the basket is full. It stops with a green light to let you know the basket is full. I pushed some ice around and it started producing more almost immediately. I saw a few reviews that complained about the noise, but im not finding it any louder than a fridge or deep freezer. I took a video but not sure how accurate the noise level is with my phones microphone. Its really not worth waisting anymore time talking about it other than to say dont sleep with it and you should be fine. I got this because Im a fan of ice water and energy drinks poured over ice (There's a 4th of July Monster that is so good over ice!). I also like to chew a bit of ice with each sip. This thing makes the perfect ice for it. Its like Taco Bell or Sonic... even the ice they use for patients in hospitals.. its perfect ice. Pros: Its an ice maker that makes perfect chewable ice and it doesn't break the bank to buy one. Cons: Really, the only con I can think of after a couple hours of use is its not a freezer. So the ice it makes has to be used or tossed, otherwise the ice will melt, drain into the reservoir and be remade. I imagine this would put a lot of strain on the ice maker and burn it out before its time. Plus, the ice would start tasting funky. I highly recommend to anyone that likes ice and likes to chew it.

Love it!
This ice maker makes the small, chewable ice known as Nugget ice. Itโs also often referred to as โSonic Iceโ because itโs so similar to the chewable ice that the Sonic food chain is known for. After letting it just sit for 24 hours, as recommended, then putting it through the cleaning cycle, I started making my first batch of ice. When you plug the machine in, the light around the Ice/Clean will flash 3 times. When itโs done flashing, press the Ice/Clean button once. The light should be white & within 6 minutes itโll start to drop ice. It starts making ice in 6 minutes but it takes about an hour to fill the basket. Itโs easy to make the ice & easy to clean. It IS on the heavy side & although it comes with a basket & a ice scoop, it doesnโt come with a handle. Can you load it up & take it camping? Yes, but itโs not exactly light & without a handle transporting it can be challenging. Would I buy this particular model again? Yes. Because, so far anyway, itโs working great. Iโm very happy with it! I just wish it had a handle.

Ice maker was great until it stopped working.
At first this ice maker worked great. I put it through the cleaning cycles once a month, even though I only use bottled water in this machine. After about five months of use, I started getting an error notification of a water system fault, but there is nothing in the user manual that addresses this particular issue. It took a few emails to get past the automated responses, but once an actual human responded to me, they were very helpful. Unfortunately, my ice maker had a water pump issue and could not be fixed with troubleshooting, so they are sending me a replacement unit.

I like the machine, but it has to make bigger ice cubes then it does.

Don't expect it to last more than 2 years
Almost lasted 2 years and just died. Ordered a different model this time. I guess for the price that's all you can expect. All these cheaper ice makers have the same "bucket, acorn ice, flipper" mechanism and electronics so expect it to work but just for a while. Worked great...hard to clean, but it won't make a difference on longevity.
