Very Well made axe, very sharp, handle quality great, heavy duty, price is right, I recommend this axe for every outdoorsman.

This is a good quality small splitting maul, not a hatchet. Splitting mauls are not typically sharp. This one hand Maul is not made to chop down trees or cut "cross grain"on logs. That is what a🪓 Hatchet or 🪓 Axe is made for. That's why this small maul is not sharp. If you want it hatchet sharp then go ahead and sharpen it. I have been using single bit and double bit Axes and Hatchets, and 8lb, and 6lb splitting mauls for over 65 years. I have always heated my home with wood. This is a very good small splitting maul, and works great for what it is designed for (splitting kindling and small starter wood pieces). I have been using it daily since purchasing it from Amazon. The wedge incorporated onto the blade sides expands the end grain of the wood quickly, 🪵 and allows for Splitting with less downward swing, and force . Creating a much safer split . Yes I recommend this 👌. Would loved to have had one 65 years ago 😀.

Wow, great camp wood splitter. I bought this as an inexpensive substitute for my Fiskers hatchet. Didn’t want to beat it up in the back of a trunk or camper storage box. This little maul is very very good. It splits the wood much better than my Fiskers hatchet. And my Fiskers hatchet works good. But the maul wedges on the side take care of business. Buy it, it is worth buying and having.

Good balance and hefty feel. Be clear, this is not designed for chopping but for splitting. I wanted something good ad both. It is heavier than most hatchets. It is good for splitting, though nor as good as a good splitting wedge. It is good for starting a groove for the heavier wedge. It is durable and excellent quality but not sharp. It is not designed for sharpness, blade shape is wrong. Pic shows it beside a similar size hatchet and see how the hatchet has a much more slender blade. Even sharpening will not make it much better at chopping. I do like the strong handle and its length.

It’s a splitting maul alright, non hydraulic, non pneumatic, non electric , non mechanical and non magical. Batteries not included or needed. No attached power cords. Not foldable or collapsible. No operating instructions included. Why? Because it is a very good splitting maul and only needs “elbow grease” to operate. I love it! A comment to the people who think that a Splitting Maul is supposed to be sharp………. THEY ARE NOT SHARP! None of them are actually sharp. If you want something sharp then purchase an Axe. An Axe, both single and double headed, are very sharp. You CUT TREES DOWN with an Axe, NOT A MAUL! Paul Bunyan carried an Axe (double headed”. A Maul is a “Brute Force Instrument”, made to be heavier than the same size of Axe. Most Mauls have protruding components that are mechanical or forged on the sides of the blade to allow for expansion of the wood being split. Basically a Maul is a dull axe combined with a Splitting Wedge built into it. A Wedge is generally used with a sledgehammer. The Wedge is tapped into place and then with a few mighty swings of the sledgehammer, driving the Wedge into the wood round causing it to split in half. A Maul is a combination of Wedge and Hammer and uses brute force to split wood. A good example of a dull Maul is on a gas or electric Wood-Splitter, commonly sold in hardware stores. The “Wedge is very blunt and the hydraulic pressure of the machine is the brute force that pushes the dull wedge into the wood or the wood onto the stationary wedge causing it to split. Wood splitters are not fast, just powerful. So, let’s see….. you cut trees down with a Sharp Axe or a Sharp Chain Saw and then you Split it with a dull wedge/Maul. Why should you NOT SHARPEN A MAUL? Very simple…… a sharp Maul will weaken the edge and when it encounters a major knot in the middle of the Round it can damage the blade edge by being thinned down by sharpening and ultimately breaking chunks off the blade edge making it useless. Repeating the sharpening of a maul blade will only make it smaller and lighter each time, subsequently making the Maul ineffective for its intended purpose. This splitting Maul is perfect for our use of making kindling from the smaller pieces of the wood that we split with our larger long handled 8lb Splitting Maul. Both are made to split, NOT CUT wood. Like the old saying…. “THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE RIGHT JOB”. Hopefully this review will be read by those who don’t know the difference between CUTTING and SPLITTING and the associated tools necessary for the two very different applications. SO DO NOT SHARPEN YOUR MAUL BUT INSTEAD PURCHASE AN AXE. If you’re a wood stove person you should have BOTH TOOLS available. I highly recommend this Maul and so far it’s been great and exactly what I needed for indoor splitting.

Tool is a mix of usable and unusable. Handle would be good if it were a hatchet otherwise too short which does not allow enough kinetic energy to be generated by overhead swinging to split wood. Using it as a light Maul with wood splitting wedge works fine. It would be good for splitting chunks for firewood though this could also be done with a hatchet or an axe. Price is reasonable.

I love this hatchet. I have a woodstove, and so firewood is a must. My gasoline wood split got crushed under a fallen tree, so I had to split the old-fashion way. I used this hatchet and a 4-lb sledge hammer to split the wood last winter. You do what you gotta do. But the hatchet to the abuse, and is still useable.

Excellent maul for the money! Quality product

A little heavy for splitting kindling but works good as a sledgehammer splitting maul. Not quite big enough for splitting larger logs without sledgehammer. Smaller logs up to 8” works fine on its own. Would be nice to have a belt axe version. Very durable and should last a lifetime. As a sledgehammer splitting maul I give 5 stars.

Good quality, light weight and does the trick for beginners doing kinling.

It's a beautiful little "hachette " it is not a splitting maul. A splitting maul has a much longer handle. Sadly I'll be returning it
