From this listing Amazon offered me a used item at reduced price, which I ordered. The drive could not burn/write CDs or DVDs. Diagnostic software showed that the internal mechanism is incorrect- MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-845E - where R indicates read only, and should have been RW for read and write. Otherwise good - This device played commercial movie DVDs with no problems and worked with my Mac and Linux computers. Physical handling of disks was smooth. The case looked nice, and only one USB connection was needed to the computer (although the cable is attached and only 11 inches long). The force eject feature worked if I pressed firmly on the right rear corner for about 30 seconds. Could not perform it's primary advertised function (write optical disks), so low rating.

Usually works really well, but every now and then if you run it for too long without taking a break, if freezes up and won't eject the disc. I have to wait a few hours, plug it back in, then it will work again.

This external disc player works wonderfully. I got it because the player that came on my "all-in-one Hulet Packard computer" worked very, very poorly--one major problem being that the computer did not recognize that is half the time. The Mths Tec player, and recorder, is just what I was looking for and I'm glad not to have bought a more expensive external USB player.

"Slot"-type hard to find, but I prefer to tray type. Works great and plays anything on disc. Built-in cord. Simply press near front of unit to release disc. Cool!

This is a gem! I love it!! Very easy to use and quickly, easily and inexpensively solved my problem of no CD drive on my desktop and laptop. The price was right, shipping fast, it's easy to use -- just plugged in, inserted CD and that was it.

Very nice external DVD W/R drive. Doesn't require power supply, fast and does the job. Wish I could find a Blue Ray/DVD player/writer for a low price like this one.

I purchased this optical drive as my new iMac does not have one built in and I wanted to save some money over the Apple drive. Unfortunately, it does not eject as it should and DVD's do not play properly. Too bad I have waited too late to return it.
