What Bread Should Be
This is a review for the Mestemacher Bread Three Grain, 17.6-Ounce (Pack of 6). There are several Mestemacher breads on the market and so far, each would live up to this very positive review. Even if the bread was not so excellent, I must say the company was immediate and very helpful when an issue arose. The Three grain, is a long rectangular slice, not the usual square slice. I find the long oblong slice more enjoyable to eat – don’t know why but maybe it is just being non-customary makes its experience more enjoyable. The bread’s texture is moist, compressed grains, and invitingly scrumptious. One can sense the grains and moist nature of the compound. The bread has a molasses, raisin, nutty taste. The taste is scrumptious. It is pleasantly chewy and substantial as to satiating hunger. I usually toast the bread and have used it as a sandwich, scoop for vegetable foods and as a cracker. Works great in all bread functions. I have even crumpled the bread and added it to soups to make them more hearty. It comes pre-sliced so you will have to make due. I had a problem with the last of six deliveries over the past few months. (I do like the bread and obviously have re-ordered.) I noticed the company of the issue, just to let them know. Within hours they explained the issue, and fixed the matter – on their own volition. Great bread – great company. Try it!

Delicious healthy bread.
If you like a hearty, earthy, sourdough flavor in your bread, then you would love this bread. It makes a great sandwich, toast with butter or cheese toast. My husband even likes it with peanut butter on it. It is filling and keeps you satisfied for a long time, in addition to you getting all the many health benefits of pumpernickel. We are on our 3rd or 4th order of this bread. It also truly stays good on your shelf for a long period of time. It is dense and heavy, so it's not like typical sandwich bread. If you only like fluffier, airy bread, then you may not like this. For it's perfect. We love hearty grainy bread and we love sourdough. This is a combination of both. It's delicious and a good buy, for what you're getting.

Great bread, just not the right packaging for transport!
I have purchased this kind of bread a few times, but this time three out of the six breads were turned into crumbs. I wonder if that package which was not in a box but in a paper bag had been tossed in transport. That is disappointing. It’s too bad because I love this bread. It’s so tasty and it has a great texture.

Nice thick bread - tasty when toasted- holds lots of toppings when open-faced
We were pleased with the quality of this bread for the price. Also that it has no preservatives added. We wish we could have tasted it before it was pasteurized as it is made the old-fashioned way with sourdough starters and freshly ground grain, as per German standard, and I am sure it would be truly amazing fresh. However, the fresh grains and sourdough starter and the bread being produced by old-fashioned methods and standards, still leaves a nutritious and easily digestible bread. Our breads in the USA, use grains milled by the manufacturer before storing and shipping, bromated flour, and even those with sourdough starter are seldom leavened long enough to produce a healthy loaf. I do not have the time nor skills to produce properly made breads, and find it such a shame they are so difficult to find to purchase in this country. The fresh baked breads in the supermarkets and even the bakeries use short-cut methods that create highly indigestible products, a reason for so much gluten-intolerance and IBS symptoms I am sure. This bread again, is nutritious and healthy and easy to digest. It needs to be toasted to bring out the flavor and can easily support thick slices of cheese and/or meat and toppings.

Healthy wheat free bread
I’ve eaten several varieties from this brand in the past and couldn’t say that my palate can tell much difference between the varieties. It’s not your traditional sandwich bread and does take some getting used to for the chewiness. It was recommended to me as a very healthy whole-grain, wheat free bread. I personally enjoy it but I toast it for several minutes and flip it halfway through because I prefer it to be a little bit more sturdy/crisp. Sometimes I top it with hummus, or I make avocado toast and eat it with a hard boiled egg for some protein, or natural peanut butter and a banana. It’s definitely a textural adjustment and it is very chewy so if you do not enjoy whole grains and seeds, this is not the bread for you. I very rarely eat it plain.

YUMMY!
All the way from Germany and priced that way too! (but $2 a loaf cheaper than Whole Foods!) You must TOAST it! Tastes great raw but will crumble in your hands. Set toaster on HIGH (or midway + bagel), gently break a piece in half (to fit), gently put them into the toaster, then BUTTER when done, and CHEW, CHEW, CHEW! THIS is a SUPER addition to breakfast if you eat light (like me) ... boiled egg, bowl of oatmeal with raisins and yoghurt, coffee, and this great tasting bread! YUM! Try all the flavors to find your favorite ... I like 'em all! Addendum 21 Mar 16: I bought these and six rye last on 28 Oct 15 at an average price of $18 for six. Today I went to reorder and found that my breads are both listed at $30 for six. Thus, sadly, I've dropped my rating from 5 stars to 1 star. Amazon must think it's xxx doesn't stink ... unfortunately, it now does.

Durable and Delicious !
This product is durable when kept in the refrigerator. The thickness meets my requirements also. Since I fast on bread and water during Lent, this bread was a very good choice !

My Favorite Style of Bread
Best bread ever! Doesn't upset my digestive system. Half a slice is the perfect amount of grain, and two or three times a week is ideal for me. It's best toasted, I think, and then it's sturdy enough for just about anything. Lightly toasted: think tuna melts or open-face egg sandwich. Medium toasted: think egg salad or spreadables. Highly toasted: jams or butters (yum!)
