Q: Why is this product advertised for food preparation when it says "inedible"?

I AGREE COMPLETELY. I think people are not aware and are eating this probably POISONOUS stuff.

Q: Is it actually gold and silver

No it is not. We use this frequently in the bakery to paint on baked pastries and cookies that will be eaten. We mix a little of the powder with a tablespoon or more of vodka to creat a liquid similar to thin paint. Using brushes we apply it to the cake or item. The vodka will evaporate out as it dries leaving a beautiful finish. We use it for decorating small areas or parts of a cookie.
