A fantastic book for anyone interested in taking up Yoga. This is also a great reference source for asanas.
I have been into all kinds of physical fitness program all my life. Even though I am in my senior years I am still enthusiastic about trying different fitness programs. I recently purchased this interesting and informative 198 page paperback book (The Pocket Guide to 108 Yoga Poses by Ami Jayaprada Hirschstein and illustrated by Hrana Janto) for a bargain price on Amazon. Even though I have some physical limitations; nevertheless, I was able to do many of these yoga asana. The wonderful book is fully illustrated showing all the Yoga exercises. This volume covers taking the first step: Hatha Yoga, focusing and centering yourself, warm-ups for body and breath, standing tall with strength and grace: standing poses, hip openers and quad stretches, hand balances, charging your core: abdominals, inversions, backbends, spinal twists, seated forward bends, relaxation and meditation and brief practices. The brief practices section shows various suggested programs you can follow depending on your personal time schedule. The organization in this book of the Yoga Asana makes it simple to follow. This is the kind of pocket book that you can use as a reference source and design your own Yoga program that will fit your personal needs.Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Chair/Seated Tai Chi/Qigong/Yoga stretching for seniors and the physically challenged: A quick course guide).

handy addition to your yoga collection
i teach pilates classes but like to add yoga moves into my classes. this book provides excellent step by step instructions for many poses. i like the clear drawings, unlike the other poster i actually prefer drawings because pictures can sometimes look outdated. this book feels current and "fresh". the book is small, i can trhow it in my gym bag for a quick reference.the only enhancement i would have liked is to have each pose provide a brief statement on the benefits or parts of the body worked. as an instructor i really value that information and being able to pass it on to my students

Excellent Book !
This book was a real surprise and delight to me. I figured it would just be a quick review / summary of the most basic asanas in yoga. It turns out to not only be that but to also have excellent drawings showing the postures, excellent descriptions of the postures, and a review of the basics that most yoga styles do not teach you. Namely, the rules of bodily mechanics taught to Osteopathic Physicians and used to heal people with Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, and which are integrated into the style of yoga called Anusara Yoga, are taught in this book. This of course makes this one of the best possible yoga books out there! And probably one of the cheapest also due to its small size. Buy it! Read It, Enjoy It!

small but powerful book on yoga
I bought this as a companion book to Idiots Guide to Yoga. I recommend buying them as a set..the poses in this book are easy to read; I do wish that some poses would have been marked as difficult, or for advanced practicers..the size makes it easy to carry or pack in a bag, when you travel. I enjoy the Idiots book series, well-written, researched and worth the money.

great little book
perfect little book to use at home or on the go, plenty of poses, most all the poses a beginner to intermediate yoga student would need. descriptions/instructions are good, although nothing takes the place of a great instructor! it is definitely a plus to have taken classes from a terrific instructor before trying to wing it with any yoga book, otherwise you cannot get the full benefit of each pose.

The perfect companion to any practice -- with great, poetic motivation in describing the poses
The perfect companion to any practice. The words within reflect the beauty of finding your own personal edge -- really coolly written and nicely illustrated. Want to know how to build to a pose? -- this compact collection is well suited for that as well as casual browsing. Even a quick flip of the pages will motivate you.

Disappointing
I purchased this item to use as an insert for a teacher appreciation gift. I had hoped the pictures of the different poses were sharp, clear photographs so I could make multiple copies. Not the case. Poses were just small hand drawings; not useable for my purpose.
