Great explanations -- really helpful!
Common Core Standards for math and English can be very confusing for parents. I have used this and the math book in the same series with my 4th grader and we have found it really helpful. It goes over every topic your child needs to know and offers great explanations and fun exercises to make sure that your child understands what is being taught. The art and the illustrations are really well done and kept my son engaged. And almost all of of the reading passages covered things my son enjoyed finding out about. These books are like having a good private tutor -- except you can cover what is being taught at grade level with your own child. We are going to buy the grade 5 books to get a head start on next year at the end of the summer.

Great book for daily review
My niece was getting overwhelmed by all of the state standards and tests last year, so I bought this book to help her get a jump on what’s expected in the 4th grade. She loves all the photos and thinks the stories and exercises are fun. Very colorful and engaging. Worth every penny.

Great Series of Workbooks/Study Guides to help your child get through, or more fully grasp, these core standards
I've written reviews for both 2nd and 3rd grade books (Math and ELA for each grade level) in this Common Core Success Series. I have twin boys, and we used these books to help them (and us - their parents) navigate through this new world of Common Core (some people are calling it State Standards now), and the books were fantastic for the boys. It really helped them understand, and actually keep a bit ahead of what was going on in their classroom with Math and English.Fast forward to this summer. One of my sons sees this book, and asks me to get it so he can give 4th grade a try before he starts it in September. I would never deny a request like this from one of my sons, so we ordered it from Amazon. It came so quickly, and he was very excited! He was especially interested in the English Language Arts book because he was not excelling in it as he was in Math, but definitely showed a great jump in the spring with the help of the 3rd Grade ELA book. After 2 days with this 4th grade book he was more than halfway through it, and he finished it tonight. I am amazed at how he was able to follow along with the reading exercises, grasp the concepts, and answer most of the questions. We were able to sit down and discuss the famous scientists and artists presented in the book, and answer the questions (mostly done by him). The book is formatted in an easy-to-understand, nicely visual way where the units/sections move along very smoothly. He's a lot more confident about covering this in 4th grade now, and can enjoy the summer. He did say that he will keep the book with him throughout the year so he can use it to help him understand things as the year goes along. This whole series has been a definite plus for my family, and we will continue to work with it as the boys progress through school. Highly recommended!!!

I really loved reading this book
I really loved reading this book! I hope my daughter enjoys it as much as I have. I found the topics and stories to be excellent, and the exercises very good testing on common core skills. There were quite a bit of writing exercises - I have not seen this many in a common core work book before. I really like this aspect of the book because my daughter struggles with writing, so this is going to be good practice for her. I don't have to pull as many random worksheets from on line sites - this book has it all and enough to keep her busy for a while. I will try to remember to post a follow up after we use the book for a few months. But so far, this looks like a great resource for kids and parents who really want to help their kids get that extra practice.
