AWESOME - Better than 70W High Pressure Sodium!
I have a 70 W High Pressure Sodium light outside the barn. It works great, but has this orange glow. You know like most parking lot lights. I wanted something with more natural light, and used less power. This does the trick, the bonus - it is almost as brite. The unit is constructed well, easy to install and draws very little current. It WILL NOT work with a dimmer. Before installing it, I attached it to an ammeter and found the unit to draw about 18w. Much less than the 70 W HPS lamp it was replacing. The light has a very nice white color to it.Some notes:1. If you turn it on, it takes a few seconds for it to power up. This is not because of the the LED but the light sensor.2. It comes to full power as soon as it come on. Big improvement over the HPS.3. Unlike compact fluorescent (CFL) lights it works in cold conditions. I tested it at 17 below.4. The light is the more hard light not soft. Think clear bulb rather than frosted so the shadows are sharp.5. Like just about any other light sensing device out there, it comes on too early for me and shuts off too late. I wish these things were adjustable.6. Unlike the HPS, this light is directional. Where there is light is is as brigt but it does not shoot light up in the air. Think 180 sphere not 360.In summary: this is a great outdoor light for just about any situation and it uses MUCH LESS power than HPS, incandescent bulbs and will work in the cold where a CFL will not. Since these are the type of lights that tend to get a lot of use so you can really save some money and better yet, help preserve our natural resources.

Works Great so Far!
I purchased this January 6th and just installed it today. Installation was easy and I have it installed horizontally under a soffit in the rear of my home. Even though the instructions show installing it in a round junction box on a wall, it installed perfectly in the existing rectangular horizontal junction box that was already there where the old flood light was installed. The light came on about 15 minutes prior to sunset, but it is installed on the northeast corner of the house which gets dark faster than on the western side of the house. The light is a nice bright white with perhaps a hint of bluish color. I've saved the box and invoice and all paperwork for the 5 year warranty. I'm a little leery on if the photocell will continue to operate properly for 5 years. Photocells I install on my lamppost out front tend to fail every other year for some reason, probably due to water getting inside of it.Update 01/22/13 - The light has been installed 12 days now and it is working flawlessly! It regularly comes on about 15-25 minutes prior to sunset and shuts off 15-25 minutes after sunrise depending on the amount of cloud cover. Although initially expensive, I'm very happy with the purchase.Update 03/13/13 - I've owned the unit about 9 weeks now and it continues to perform flawlessly! Sometimes if it is a dark and rainy morning or evening it will not shut off til later in the morning or come on earlier in the evening but that is to be expected. Still very happy with the purchase.Update 05/28/13 - I've owned the unit for coming up on 5 months now and it continues to perform excellent! I think having mine mounted under the soffit protects it very well from the elements.Update 12/7/13 - 11 months old and still going strong. Working perfectly. Maybe this will actually last 5 years (the length of the warranty)! I was skeptical at first.Update 5/20/14 - Unit is 1 year 4 months old now and still going strong. Still working perfectly. Nothing new to report that I haven't already mentioned.Update 3/8/16 - Unit is 3 years 2 months old now and still going strong. I have no doubt that it will last the full 5 year warranty period and then some. It probably is good that I have it mounted under the soffit so it is protected from the elements for the most part.Update 10/27/17 - Unit is now just a couple months shy of the 5 year mark and its still working perfectly. I'm amazed because when I bought it I didn't think it would last the full 5 year warranty period. I think because mine is mounted under a soffit, that keeps it protected from the elements and is probably the reason I've had no problems.

I am thinking of buying another one for the backyard. 1/11/15
11/24/2017 Review. The light still working nice and bright every night. One of the reason I think that is still doing well is because I have it way inside the roof. There is no way it can touch any rain water. And the place it is installed is relatively clean and less dust.I am thinking of getting a second one still...but I am a little trouble by the rating getting lower and lower. the "1* " is getting to 17%. I normally not even look at anything that has such a high 1* rating. On the other hand I have one that is working very well in the front and I do want to the house to have some same lighting if possible. So my plan of buying the second one is still on. The FIVE YEAR warranty should cover if the light do not perform as "normal" usage.6/24/2016 Review:5 Stars Still. I did my study well. I still think this is a much better light than other type. (I just look at other planning to buy another one)I like the photo sensor because I can just leave the switch on and it will automatically turn on and off. This is a good feature if you go on a vacations for days and weeks1/3/2016 Review:I bought this item on 4/1/2015 and it has been 9 months already and it is working pretty well. Nice and bright every night. I am planning to buy another one for the back yard.Beginning review:I love it... like many people said already... it turn on a bit too early and turn off a bit too late... I have a light switch to this light...so I can manually turn it on and off when I am at home... if i am not at home i will leave the switch on and let it do its job. I would buy it again.

I like that these lights come on at dusk and go off at dawn, I have two on the back of my house lighting up the backyard. They are very bright and I am totally pleased that I purchased them.
