The Japanese call a hook-and-loop fastening system "magic tape" and that's why these reinforced-toe jika-tabi are called "Magic Safety". It's a very practical solution for environments where an easy on/easy off shoe is appropriate. The thin rubber sole is similar to the one used on the Rikio Fighter or Rikio Ansen to provide for a comfortable and balance-oriented barefoot feel. The toe protection is a desirable feature for many situations: training, unbeaten paths, large crowds, stampedes, etc. The external material is black 100% cotton with a thin flexible natural rubber outsole. The velcro closures offer a tight, reliable, and adjustable fit for a variety of foot widths.

Minimalist safety footwear
Bought these after some corporate know-it-alls mandated composite toes, effectively barring me from wearing FiveFingers in the workplace. The soles on these have a good flex, there’s no drop, no arch support, the split toe design still allows for decent pivoting, and the boots overall are pretty durable. My only real gripe is that the heel does seem a little loose, but I can probably resolve that by ordering a slightly smaller size.EDIT: the heels being loose was due to my lower legs and feet being so skinny that I couldn’t get a tight enough fit. I was able to resolve this by adding more velcro to the boots, allowing the straps to become tighter. After doing this, these things fit perfectly.

Good material
Strong material but for confort I had to add some good insoles.

Uncomfortable
The toe separator is too deep. length was perfect, The shoe fits extremely loose width-wise; make sure you have on thick socks.

Loose on a slimmer foot
The toe area was wider than I expected and it would be nice to have more arch support. I have thin feet so I usually use inserts. Overall what you'd expect.

Unfortunately, not practical
I liked it a lot! However, it's a little impractical for everyday use...
