Terrible packaging
The first time I ordered these I received it at the same time as another item. I strongly encourage you to not do this. The container exploded in the box. Since Amazon doesn't tape the edges of their boxes, I received 2 Tbsp of pellets rolling around under my other item. The rest ended up in my lawn, my front porch, my street, and the delivery truck. After returning the damaged item to Kohl's in a ziplock bag per Amazon instructions (seriously Amazon?) I ordered again. I knew what I was getting into this time, though. A full 2 days later I received an envelope from Amazon with only this item inside, again with the container exploded and balls rolling around inside the envelope. At least it was sealed this time. I was able to retrieve the little blue spheres and use them to decorate my outside succulents (yay!).They do what they are supposed to do. The dye doesn't run. They are made of ceramic so they evaporate water quickly. They keep my perlite mixes from blowing out of my clay pots. They are very handsome. They just come in a crappy thin plastic container that explodes the second an Amazon worker touches it. All in all I would order again (as long as I am ready to pick pieces of plastic out of my order).

Pretty Periwinkle Blue Clay Pebbles
These pebbles initially seemed expensive, but there are so many clay balls in the jar that I expect I will be using them as a lovely soil cover for a long time. They do not dissolve, so if you're moving a plant, the soil of which is covered by these, I recommend tipping the pot over a closed {bottom} container, which will cause the balls to fall out. If they're covered with soil, rinse in hot water before re-using as a soil cover. It is a waste of money to use this product to aerate soil unless you're using them in a clear glass container where they can be seen. In that case, I would cover the bottom with an inch of these clay balls, then add medium mixed with the clay pebbles, adding the plant and filling afterward, than adding more pebbles to cover the soil. That will guarantee you will see some of them for a while. If they become so mixed with the soil, empty the container, rinse off the beads and start over. To prolong the time between changes, I advise adding mesh cloth between the soil layer and bottom and cover layers of colored pebbles to keep them separate. Of course, if you choose black or dark blue pebbles, it will be difficult to differentiate them from anything but orchid mix.Just FYI, these clay balls are not dusty at all,so there's no need to rinse them prior to use, at least where plants are concerned.

Not for semi-hydroponic plants.
While this is not advertised as an expanded clay ball I decided to buy/try it anyway to look nice in a hanging prop. station. These little clay balls are HEAVY. They look great as a top dressing and don't require any rinsing. To compare them to LECA, I cut them in half (nearly impossible) and photographed it side by side with LECA / expanded clay balls / hydro balls. I have found that the nicer looking the clay balls, the worse they are for semi-hydroponic growing. I'm starting a cutting in this clay to see how it works out long term but don't suggest transferring any plants to this medium.

Not colorfast.
When put in water the die will cloud your water with the color of the balls.

Good
Couldn't figure out how to open it, but popping a small hole ended up being easier to pour so all good

Not what I expected
Should have listened to the negative reviews. These are not Leca balls which I guess I thought they were. They aren't even sealed so who knows what they've put in here and labeled.
