The King's agent finds love with an old family friend.
Sir Trenton de Russe is an agent for King Henry VIII and is commanded to bring a man to him the sheriff of Ilchester Benoit de Wilde. So when Trenton gets there to apprehend Benoit they instead hear a woman screaming and a physical beating going on. Trenton is able to stop Benoit from beating the woman. When Trenton finally notices the woman he can hardly believe his eyes it is someone from his past Lady Lysabel Wellsbourne de Wilde. Trenton has known Lysabel for a long time especially since she is the daughter to his father’s best friend but cannot believe that she is married to Benoit and kills him instead. When Trenton returns to Henry he offers Trenton a break and in that break Trenton goes to see Lysabel but in going to see her, his attraction to her is unavoidable. Of course when Lysabel’s father discovers that Trenton loves his daughter he fights against it. Will Trenton’s love for Lysabel pit old family friends against each other destroying that bond or will Lysabel and Trenton find their happily ever after with each other? This is an amazingly wonderfully well written book by Ms. Kathryn Le Veque. There is adventure, action and a beautiful heart stopping romance too. Ms. Le Veque just knows how to write a good story and this one is no exception that kept me hungering for every single word and glued until the very last page. Yes there is a lot going on but the story flows seamlessly and did not drag in the least bit. This story is also fairly complete even with some of the fates of a few of the side characters not being resolved but this is so minor that really it didn’t hurt the book in the least. Trenton is a great mysterious hero but still filled with compassion and heart. Trenton is definitely a very easy hero to like and fall for even with his distasteful job. Lysabel even though she is abused is a lot stronger than she appears no wonder Trenton falls for her. It was great to see some past Le Veque heroes and some new faces as well. This is definitely a book I will keep to read again and I eagerly await Ms. Le Veque’s next story!

Enrapturing Amazing Tale!!!
There are no words to describe this tale adequately. WOW, was my first thought when I got the last page. I knew by Chapter 3 that Trenton de Russe was going to be a new all time favorite, and boy is that an understatement. What an endearing, strong, passionate hero. Our heroin, was no less than he. Lys is a heroin that most women can relate to in one sense or another, strong, loving, protective and compassionate even tho life has give her many reasons to be none of those things. Our hero is much the same, battered past with every reason to bitter about his personal life even tho he comes from a loving family. This story tore at my heart strings for so many reasons. For you to be able to feel the emotions, raw, exciting, anguish, joy in the pages of our hero's story is incredibly talented writing on Le Veques part. It is one of the many reasons her novels are so successful, you become invested in the characters. My only slight on this book was there wasn't more!!! I wanted more scenes like the first night a Wellsbourne, I wanted the epilogue to give more. In all this pair make you want more. The story is heavy with appearances by characters from the past, Gaston, Matthew, Dane....it makes the story all the more touching and emotional.Though you do not have to read, The White Lord of Wellsbourne or The Dark One first, I highly recommend it.This tale enraptures you in a way that leaves you in awe and bit bereft at the end. You don't really want it to be over. Trenton deRusse, is by far, an all time fav!!!Highly recommend this story!!!

Sort of Liked It
This book had many of the elements I like in my romance read. The hero was strong and powerful, he was instantly attracted to the She, his good looks did not eclipse the heroine's, and he was not in denial of what he was feeling for the She. The fact that he was a brooding man, raather than a charming rogue, was an added bonus for me. I also liked the heroine ( though I prefer a younger heroine), she was beautiful, sweet and feminine, and did not start twitching with heat awareness the second she met the hero. However, there were also elements in this story that I did not like. For starters, there were some inconsistencies between this story and "The Dark One". I find it inconceivable that the submissive child Trenton was, grew to be a confident leader of men. I mean he defer to Dane in all things as a child when he was not only older, but by far more powerfully built. Also in Darak Moon Remington is referred as to having "freckled skin", a fact that has nothing to do with her advanving years. Yet in her own story "her skin was as white as pure cream" and that was a direct quote. I know, very trivial, but still and inconsistency. And lastly I never like it when the hero has been in love before, though I'm glad that Ms. Le Veque did not dwell on this fact, as she had done in some of her other books.I like this story for what it was not for what it pretended to be: a romance story. To me this was a well told saga of family and friendships, with just enough romance inseted-in to keep it interesting. There was also a lot of repetition, for instance the reader is told again and again about Lysabeth sad marriage and her husband demise. And there was not enough interaction between the couple. In the final analysis I found Lysabeth & Trenton's love lack luster, it was missing that intangible quality that makes a romance magical. Yet I still gave it 4 Stars because I was spared reading about a heroine pining away for a man who does not want to love her.SPOILERS TO FOLLOW: However, I almost gave "Dark Moon" 3 Stars. I was so upset to read about how my favorite historical romance hero(Gaston de Russe) was pathetically weaken by old age and a terminal illness. Yes, we all get sick and old (except for an untimely death of course) and eventually die, but I just don't want to read about it. It spoils for evermore (at least for me) the HEA on his own story: "The Dark One". Authors and readers alike, know, that every single historical romance character, we have read about. is long in his/her grave. But Oh why remind us? We did not even get the pleasure of seeing Gaston and Remingto inter-act with each other, they did interact with other characters in the story, but never between the two them. The fact of Gaston's impeding death will be keeping me far away, from Dane's story, for I fear it might just take place during the tellling of "Dark Steel".

Loved it!
Didn't like how Matthew was sooo stubborn about the whole situation but non the less your books are all so interesting and each one has a different story line. Not sure how you do it!

A Must to read!
A Must to read!Kathryn Le Veque is a high quality writer that pulled me again into her medieval story 'Dark Moon'! I had to keep on reading to know what would happen next. She is a very descriptive author, so much I could see the surroundings where the story was set.Trent de Russe and Lady Lysabel Wellesbourne de Wilde's captivating story is filled with strong emotions, tenderness, passion and adventure. It was the perfect medieval romance for me! I am literally addicted to Kathryn Le Veque’s stories. I highly recommend this sublime novel!

Anxious dads and star crossed lovers
Kathryn Le Veque writes buckets of medieval novels, but she keeps them fresh somehow. This has all the good stuff from previous novels (grimy medieval life, family fights, square jawed knights), but there are entertaining new elements - such as two little girls and their ponies. When Trenton de Russe realises childhood friend Lysabel has been beaten by her husband, he metes out rough justice. This starts a journey for both of them where they are attracted but Trenton is on wife number three. Naturally Lysabel’s father has reservations about Trenton’s interest in Lysabel and does his best to protect his child. Lysabel has two daughters that Trenton also feels protective about so he spoils them with gifts. Anyone who has thought it a great idea to give a child a pet will laugh at the entertaining mess of mixing small children and animals.Despite some heavy moments ‘Dark Moon’ is often light hearted, with children and young knights playing up and teasing each other. Fans of previous books will recognise Trenton and Lisabel’s fathers. Best friends Gaston de Russe and Matthew Wellesbourne are now older and wrestling with the anxieties of having adult children. While the author doesn’t idealise these former heroes, she gives a lovely insight into the emotional richness of old age. But if you think KleV has gone all soft, watch out for a fateful meeting with Trenton’s wife. Urk.At the book’s centre are star crossed lovers whose longing for better lives will break your heart. While you hope things will work out, you are never quite sure. Like most of this authors books, it’s an edge of your seat experience in action packed medieval England. Highly recommended.

A Great Visit
I loved this book! It was so great to have the opportunity to visit with The White Lord and his beloved wife and family as well as with The Dark One and his beloved clan! Those two Earl's go way back to young men in the Le Veque archives. I was moved to tears at times and also, found myself laughing out loud at other times. It was a great Read! Cheers to Kathryn Le Veque who always delivers! Thank you!

One of the most emotionally heart rending stories
This is one of the most emotionally heart rending stories of Kathryn's that I have read. It is filled with wonderful conversation that is so engaging and romantic. Trenton and Lysabel, life long friends who are thrown together in harrowing circumstances begin this troubled tale. Shadowed by ghosts and demons of the past, solitary, stoic and handsome Trenton de Russe has never known love and the beautiful, damaged and unloved Lysabel Wellesbourne find themselves caught by the honour of their families and the love they have for each other. But it is Kathryn's ability as a true wordsmith, that allows this book to come to life. The conversations between Trenton and Lysabel and their families are so wonderfully emotional that they pull at your heart strings and the inter-connected relationship between the de Russe and the Wellesbourne men is just poetry in motion! The special and close friendship between Gaston and Matthew, Dane, Cort, William and Trenton is magical. Also as usual Kathryn shows how women were treated and how cruel this time in history was. What a wonderful book.
