A Maya Universe in Stone Review: an artist's body of work - Finished a" Maya Universe in Stone" and came away with an insightful aspect regarding an intricate aspect of Maya sculpture, its message, and its importance. The first 2 chapters flew by, a story i was not familiar with. Dana and Ginger lamb, walking out of the jungle of Guatemala with a story of a lost city. Eventually a book and movie were made in the 50's.. I got the impression they were shysters I mean . The guy couldn't remember where the city was, really, so it was left as a mystery. I'm not going to tell you how the authors came about finding the lost city but the key were several pictures taken, 2 with lintels . The author of the lintels signed MAYOY apparently was a " Michelangelo" of Mesoamerica. The book for the next 3 chapters dig deeper into the uniqueness and the story behind " Universe in Stone" according to MAYOY. It got pretty intense in a few spots that honestly I had no clue. GREAT pictures At times it was hard to find a correlation between the picture and what was being said. Would not recommend for beginners but for others interested in a fresh perspective into the complicated world Mayan art this was an eye opener...and you get a little Indiana Jones and the lost city of.................
