Il ne s'agit que d'une collection d'extraits choisis parmi les livres de Rilke précédés d'une sorte d'introduction à l'ensemble d'une longueur moyenne. Les extraits sont bien sûr tous intéressants et pour cause... mais celui qui s’intéresse à Rilke les aura sans doute déjà lus dans les textes intégraux. Il n'apprendra donc rien.On est dans la ligne d'un "best of" avec une citation par jour de l'année comme les éditeurs anglo-saxons les affectionne plutôt que d'un essai construit avec des commentaires en relation avec chaque extrait. Après tout, pourquoi pas. Je ne peux pas le déconseiller, mais tout ça a un côté nettement amateur et une forte tendance kawai" d'autant que les citations de Rilke concernant dieu restent hors contexte ...De mon point de vue, autant aller vers les textes intégraux et... s'y tenir.

I have been looking for a good translation of Rilke for awhile, but hadn't seen what I wanted until now. I can pick it up, open randomly to a page and always read something wonderful. I was highlighting favorite bits at first, but soon realized I was basically highlighting everything. This guy was in touch with something big AND he was able to express it beautifully. Timeless.
