Sets the bar high enough to discourage most crooks
I am very impressed by the ABUS 75/60 KD B All Weather Solid Brass Padlock, and ABUS locks in general. Like a lot of Americans I had the words "Master Lock" and "padlock" hardwired in my brain. Need padlock? Buy a Master Lock. Man, was I surprised when I saw a video showing how pretty much a five year old could pick a Master Lock padlock in ten seconds. Master Lock has always promoted their locks based on toughness. Never much about pick-ability resistance. I can see why. No more Master Locks for me. After searching for a while I found that the ABUS padlocks were very well regarded by both locksmiths and thieves alike. Any lock can be picked eventually by a pro, or someone who has practiced and rehearsed doing it over and over before making their YouTube video to show how sharp they are. But the ABUS locks have enough sophisticated pin and key complexity to make it much harder than usual, which translates into time needed and raises the bar for thieves looking to quickly get into something. Although I have seen a video where this lock could be shimmed by a pro it was still a time intensive effort. All in all I have great confidence in this ABUS 75/60 KD Padlock. RECOMMENDED.

serious lock
this thing has some serious mass. the quality of the key and build of the lock itself instills confidence over standard Master locks. Probably overkill for my use, but that's kind of nice in a padlock.

A lock so bold
These locks are enormous, coming from different years the boxes were different. One was rated 8 and the other 7, but they looked the same. The brass portion is very thin compared to the view displayed, but overall it's an enormous lock. The diameter was 25/64ths and I wish I knew that before buying them, as they are too thick to use on my 3/8ths (0.375) diameter case. The actual diameter ranges from .376 to .390+ along the curve so I had to order a drill bit to make the difference. The diameter listed on the ABUS website is 1/4, here, under the technical data tab.[...]but if you dig a little deeper (which I failed to do) you find out it's 25/64ths, listed here, under the variant 75/60 technical data tab.[...]Please do not make the same mistakes I did. Always double check your diameters first, especially if there are variants.

Shimmable
Keep in mind that, while a cool dimple lock, it does not use ball bearings to secure the shackle and the tolerances between the shackle and the body are also very loose and thus the lock is very easily shimmed.

It doesn't have to be the best, just better than your neighbours!
This is a pretty good lock. The weakest point is that it the sheath is made of brass and with enough persistence and strength, it can be smashed open using blunt force and a heavy object. Overall it's good value for the price. When looking for a lock, keep in mind that you don't need the best security money can buy, you just need better than everyone else around you. Most people use cheap $5 Master locks... so if a thief encounters this Abus lock, he is likely to move on to an easier target.
