God So Close: Experience a Life Awakened to His Spirit

What an amazing book. It was written so beautifully from the spirit. It is definitely a must read, you won't be disappointed.

Having grown up in a pentecostal church where the "things of the Spirit" were things that I experienced in services on a regular basis, I fully expected this to be a book that I read as a "refresher" of things I already knew. Boy was I wrong! Yes, a lot of the content is familiar theology that I've grown up hearing and experiencing. However, the way Becky TEACHES these truths using solid biblical doctrine has helped me to grow in my knowledge and understanding so that I can turn around and teach others in my life! I plan on using this book as a guide to continue teaching my girls to know and experience God more intimately in their daily walks with the Lord.This is a FANTASTIC book for new believers who are wanting to understand HOW to live a life awakened by the Holy Spirit (Pastors, a great text for a New Believers class at your church along with the accompanying Guidebook! You're welcome! 😉) AND a fantastic book to challenge veteran believers in their daily communication with God!This quote from the end of Chapter 9 pretty well sums up the heart of this book, "Again, I remind you that it is possible to have a deeper, richer, clearer relationship with Him. He wants you to know with completely certainty when He is speaking. He wants you to be so familiar with His voice that you can tell it apart from all other thoughts or influences. He is a God who can be known, and He remains so close."You've got nothing to lose and everything to gain by investing your time in digesting the content of this book. It is definitely one that I will be reading over and over again!

As someone who has grown up in the church and has been a Christ follower since a young age, I honestly tend to avoid “Christian books”. Most leave me feeling like I am a horrible person or I try to read it and become ridiculously bored. I know the Holy Spirit is important so when I heard Becky Thompson was writing a book about the Holy Spirit, I was THRILLED! I have followed Becky Thompson for years, and have read all of her other books, so I knew this book would be different. I knew that I would feel refreshed and validated, even if there would be some tough love and hard truths in her writing. Her writing makes me feel like I am sitting down with a friend for coffee, not lining up for a lecture.God So Close is a book everyone needs to read. Not only does Becky Thompson pour out her heart on the page, she comes alongside you as you find the truth about WHO the Holy Spirit is and HOW that impacts your life. Also, truth about God’s presence and how that impacts us and those around us is also given. The pages are filled with verse references and personal stories. Each chapter ends in a prayer that is heartfelt and genuine. There are also reflection questions that let you dig deeper!As someone who has sat through many a sermon on the Holy Spirit and spiritual gifts, I learned so much and feel even more connected to God and the Holy Spirit than I have in a long time. This new book by Becky Thompson is a lot different than her previous books, but not in a bad way! Her conversational writing style is still the same, but this book goes much deeper theologically than the ones that came before--also, this one has a much broader audience; I'm happy I can recommend it to any Christian friends, not just moms as was the case with her previous books. This book focuses on the Holy Spirit and who he is a part of the trinity of God. Her previous book, Peace, delved a little bit into the truth of seeing the Holy Spirit as equally as powerful and equally God as we see Jesus and God the Father, so I was excited to learn that she was writing an entire book around this subject, because I think it is an important one. One of the things I liked most about the book was that BT backs up every point she's making with scripture, and not just one scripture reference. She uses multiple scriptures throughout each chapter and for each point she's making. I'll be honest, a couple of the chapters were work for me as a lifelong Southern Baptist, but there were so many times I highlighted sections while reading through this book because there were so many good truths that I wanted to be able to go back to. It's a worthwhile and timely read.

The most AMAZING book by Becky! She is filled with the Holy Spirit and very gifted in how to teach! So it is understandable by all, and she never assumes everyone knows Bible stories, she shares the ones she wants to use as an example. We don’t have to wonder if the HS is present with us. God allowed his precious son to die so he could send us a helper. We only need to believe and talk to him as Becky says “he is as close as your breath; breathing in and out”. I have now come to have conversations with him, out loud so I hear what I am saying and recognize when he answers, sooner. You will not be disappointed if you purchase this book and you should buy 2 at a time because you will want to share right away with some one else. Pay it forward! Thank you Becky for heeding to the Holy Spirit and writing this book so we could each find freedom too!! Lord just bless everyone who buys this book and bless Becky too!
