Super helpful!
Herb has done an excellent job contextualizing spiritual formation for people in mission with God. Practicing what he writes will help keep God at the center of everything and the maturing fruit of our lives will be out of the overflow of our relationship with God—something everyone of us need!

Great resource for global workers hungry for "more"
Lamp writes from the depth of his own experience living and serving overseas in several contexts, but also knows that he doesn't know it all, so he draws on the experience of others who have lived in a variety of places around the world, serving Jesus and loving people. There are a number of books that cover similar ground, but none that I know of are written from this unique perspective (I sensed that he "gets it" when it comes to the lifestyle of God's global workers), and I appreciated the fact that he did not just look at a handful of "classic" spiritual practices, but also included areas that are not typically included, such as forgiveness, which is a powerful tool in the hand of the Father in our spiritual formation. Well written, and beautiful to look at. Kudos to all involved in this project!

Applicable To Us All
This amazing book is written by a missionary, for missionaries. But the spiritual disciplines are so applicable to all of us!Our church sent it to all of our other missionaries and to our 2 pastors (for Pastor Appreciation Month).I have shipped 12 to friends -- it's that good, that eye-opening.It's taking me days to get through one chapter. Not because it's dense. But because it is so rich that I want to re-read it and ponder it for my life.Plus, you'll learn more about missions and missionaries. Herb keeps it real.Highly recommended.

Valuable addition to global worker health
The key to functioning well within the context of another culture is the ability to stay healthy emotionally, physically, relationally, mentally and spiritually. Herb Lamp focuses his attention on the spiritual formation of global workers and how they can connect most significantly with the Triune God and fulfill their calling from him. With personal experience in both missions and member care for many years, Lamp is well qualified to speak to this topic. Along with a clear understanding of what is needed from a Scriptural point of view, he includes his own story as well as the stories of other global workers who encountered God through the "ancient paths" he includes in his book. This book is a valuable contribution to the overall mission emphasis in the world and especially for those global workers who have found their spiritual lives needing attention.
