Small Town, Workplace, Romantic Suspense
4.5 StarsRomantic suspense and small town are the recipe for a great book, at least for me, and this one is no exception. Miranda and Joel were intriguing characters investigating a case that had me guessing till the big reveal on who the culprit was. Laura Griffin has a great writing style that makes is very easy to become invested in the story and the characters she writes are a great example of that.Miranda Rhoads, a former forensic photographer turner nature photographer is out working early one morning when she comes across what appear to be a sleeping couple in a canoe. However, the closer she gets she realizes they aren't sleeping. Lead detective on the case, Joel Breda, is immediately intrigued by Miranda, an eyewitness who appears to be completely collected after finding a dead couple. Of course, upon closer examination, she might not be as unaffected by what's she's seen as he thought. And when the department is in desperate need of forensic help and the bodies keep piling up, Joel and Miranda will need to work together to solve the case.I really enjoyed how the relationship between Miranda and Joel developed and the way they worked together throughout the case. I love that Joel was completely open to Miranda's thoughts and opinions and I love the way he wanted to protect her throughout. The pacing of the entire book worked really well for me and the way Miranda's backstory was revealed was done really well. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this series and more from this author. This is one I would recommend to anyone who enjoys the following.✔️ Workplace Romance✔️ Small Town✔️ Mystery/Suspense✔️ Law Enforcement Hero✔️ Protective Hero✔️ Third Person POV

Thrilling and Romantic
Miranda Rhoads is a former forensic photographer who has moved to the seaside town of Lost Beach, Texas. She's become a wildlife photographer and is out early one morning taking photos when she comes across a murdered couple in a canoe making her plans change. Detective Joel Breda is out to find answers, both about the murdered couple and about Miranda who seems to know a lot about the crime scene. The department hires her and the two of them work together to find a killer but they also discover a connection between each other.I loved this book which is second in the series and read it in one sitting. The book's well-written and it'll take you on a thrilling ride. It's full of action and suspense as well as romance and you'll be caught up in the story from the beginning. I sincerely hope that there's more to come in the series and highly recommend both books.

Slow
I have enjoyed all of Laura Griffin’s books. She’s one of my favorite suspense authors. So I was surprised that the tone of this book is more of a cozy mystery than an intense, suspenseful story. It is excellent at depicting typical police procedural investigation into the murders, yet this also slows what could be a page-turning story into a realistic methodology of how police uncover a perpetrator.

Fast-Paced Suspense Romance
This book was fast-paced. As soon as I started reading I didn't want to put it down. If you read book one that you have meet Miranda's sister in that book. You don't have to read that book to enjoy this one. This book can be read as a stand alone. I really enjoyed the romance that blossomed up between Miranda and Joel. I also enjoyed following along with everyone as they tried and figured out the murders. If you want a fast-paced, can't put down along with some romance book than pick this one up.

Excellent read
This well written story moved smoothly and easily kept my interest to the very end. The slow burn romance between the couple was great, not an insta-love like most books. The mystery was excellent and the writer's knowledge of science and police work was subtle, not boring or on and on or shoved in your face. I definitely recommend this book to readers who like romance/suspense.
