And about time too!
At last, a blu-ray release of this great film from the 70's! Made in 1978 I believe, I remember it being surprisingly creepy, which for a Sherlock Holmes film is unusual. For me, there are three truly great Sherlock Holmes films, Hammers "The Hound Of The Baskervilles", Billy Wilders' "The Private Life Of Sherlock Holmes" and this gem by Bob Clark. Not long after this he went on to direct that classic teen movie "Porky's".I've been wanting to see this on blu-ray for a very long time. I never found it on DVD and remember it being shown on tv a couple of times over the years, and for me, it's sadly underrated. Christopher Plummer was an interesting choice to play Holmes, and although good, is possibly a little too 'warm', while James Mason makes a surprisingly good Dr.Watson. He's clearly intelligent and not at all bumbling like Nigel Bruces' Watson in the Basil Rathbone films.Combining Sherlock Holmes with Jack The Ripper was a clever idea and works incredibly well.

My favourite Sherlock
Bob Clark created an absolute classic with this Christopher Plummer starring ‘Holmes meets the Ripper’ mystery. James Mason makes a sterling Watson. A beautiful restoration and a lovely evening spent watching a lovely 70s murder mystery.

Ripping good yarn !!!!!!
A must have movie, so much atmosphere, with wonderfull performances from the late great Christopher Plummer and James Mason as Holmes and Watson.Without doubt for me the best what if Holmes met the Ripper movie out there. Brilliant production , score , and so well directed, as I say with so much atmosphere you can see the fog coming up from the back of your TV, highly recommended 🔍🔎🎬🙂

Good to have this on bluray
The picture and sound are more than fine for a film this old (1978). It looks good! And the commentary form Kim Newman and Barry Forshaw is excellent. (I actually bought the bluray BECAUSE it features a Kim Newman commentary.

Hidden gem
Watched this a few times, love it. Very watchable and enjoyable, entertaining although pure fantasy. Nice little story, script and acting good with some absolute stars of stage and screen.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW BEFORE BUYING
The Blu-ray does play in English and have subtitles as stated but the Spanish subtitles are not removable, making the film unwatchable.

Wonderful film... unfortunately image issues
One of my favourite Holmes films... unfortunately the 'brand new restoration' from Studiocanal has so much image movement in some scenes it's distracting... wonderful film,so so presentation
