This made me think of Sinbad!
This was a fun adventure! It made me think of the movie Sinbad. Alos is totally Sinbad with his crew of misfits sailing the seas and exploring amazing lands! It was great! This book follows the middle sister Niya who is kidnapped by Alos so that he can get a pardon from the Thief King. Which he does, but he also strikes a bargain with Niya that forces her to work for him on his ship for a year. While working for him, they find out that Alos homeland is in danger and the only way to save it is to receive the heart of their land, the Prism Stone. So, they go off on this high sea adventure to find the pieces to put it back together and restore it where it rightfully belongs.I love stories set at sea, and so I knew I would love the adventure and story of this one. Especially when it immediately made me think of Sinbad, and Alos is just the perfect Sinbad!Alos was my favorite character. That broody, merciless, cruel pirate, that has a huge heart and actually cares A LOT. I loved his sass and how misunderstood he is. He made a wonderful pirate!Niya on the other hand I will bluntly say I do not like. I appreciate how tough she is and she held her own, but my goodness! Does she not get tired of being angry ALL THE TIME?! She is rather childish and spoiled, and I did not get the impression she ever grew up from her time on Alos' ship.Other than Niya, I really enjoyed this book. I love the world. That is the best thing about these books. The world is just amazing and so unique and fun! I can hardly wait to read Arabessa's story next!I won this book from a Goodreads giveaway. Thank you to the publishers for gifting me a digital copy to read.

This book rekindled my imagination and a drive for adventure I thought had burned out. So far my favorite in the series and one of my top five in my library. Kudos to E.J. Mellows for the flowing emotions of Sisterhood, Friendship, Love, and Adventure. A definite reread. 10 stars

Niya was always my favorite
Ever since the three were introduced in book 1, Niya’s sarcastic and feisty nature have made her my favorite of the sisters, so it was fun to spend almost 500 pages with her.I read it as part of a trilogy, but, as advertised, it really is a standalone novel. Reading the first book will help you understand personal references and relationships, but the story is not dependent on what happened in “Rains.”

Not a fan of the abusive relationship…
I completed this book so I could continue on to the next book and find out how this trilogy ends. That being said, I found the relationship in this book to be rather abusive. I had trouble getting through it. The male lead character has very few redeeming qualities, and those few are only revealed so late in the story that it was much too late for me to change my opinion of him. His cruel manipulation that sets the stage for this story is nauseating and despicable. While it may have been consensual, it was on false pretenses and at a young age. This “mistake” is lorded over her constantly and she’s shamed for it and not offered any sympathy, not even by other women really. I was so disappointed, the male lead never seems remorseful and she somehow gives her trust to him again. It was like watching a friend continue to go back to their horrible, no-good, slimy, selfish boyfriend. The whole time she blames herself too. So many people claimed in reviews they liked this book better than the first. I was left feeling like there was something wrong with me after reading it because I couldn’t understand why anyone would prefer the relationship between these two.To clarify, I have nothing against the idea of enemies to lovers and all that might come with it. However, this particular dynamic was upsetting to me. I hope someone else will find comfort in knowing they weren’t the only one to feel this way, as I did, when I finally found some of the more negative reviews.

Spicy Pirate meet Fire Dancer
ARC Review:“Scars, struggles, and flaws made one interesting.”.I loved this story. It was glorious. Full of adventure, magic, wickedness, and tons of tension. This is an adult, enemies to lovers, fantasy romance book. It had just enough spiciness too. Focusing on another one of our favorite sisters, Niya, and a handsome, ruthless pirate, Alós Ezra. Two people with a past that still haunts them have to come together to resolve a new adventure. Both constantly are wanting to kill each other any chance they get. Will they survive this new chapter together or will they both leave broken hearted?.Niya is a strong willed, sarcastic, loving woman. She absolutely adores her family and will do just about anything to keep them safe. However, a mistake she made in the past now haunts her, and puts her family at risk. In order to keep it in the past, she is now throw into close quarters with a ruthless, delicious pirate. Niya is now having to deal with the trauma of the past while also discovering a new part of her she didn’t even know existed. Along the way her heart and feelings start to grow and change. Will she survive the end result?.Alos Ezra has always been know as a ruthless, power hungry pirate. He is captain of the Crying Queen full of thieves and scoundrels. All just as ruthless as their captain. However, this pirate has a secret past that has lead to who he is today, but that past has also come to haunt him now. He will now do anything to fix this new problem. Even by bringing abroad an old friend that could end up thawing his cold heart..After reading this I cannot wait for the next sister’s book. I enjoyed this story so much. This cover is also gorgeous and perfect for this story. It is definitely a slow burn, but E J Mellow does an amazing job at adding so much more adventure, and action to the story that the slow burn fades to the background. You’re engaged the entire time with all that is going on. If you haven’t already preordered this book you must do it as it releases real soon!

Wonderfully original
Just finished The Mousai Trilogy by E.J. Mellow.Highly recommend! First time reading anything by this author. Brilliant world-building, original, complex believable characters, lovely touch of humour, and beautifully gothic.Only downside is I wouldn't mind more books...

Loved it!
Better than the 1st book. I loved the female lead and her fiery temper. I thoroughly enjoyed the character development and the story itself. I recommend it if you enjoyed the 1st book but felt like something was missing. This book will not disappoint and reads easily. A good adventure novel.

Very enjoyable
This book I liked most compared to the previous one, although being very nice as well. Characters are so all consuming with their fights and contrasting emotions all along the story, you can't stop reading to discover the full story until the end. Loved every word of this book!
