Eudora Welty: Photographs

Beautiful book of the vintage South
I bought two, one as a gift for a friend who adores this Author and one for myself. The images are beautiful and candid days from the South. My favorite is the one of the musicians playing on the porch. If you love authentic B&w photography and if you love the south, you will enjoy this book.

EUDORA WELTY'S ARTISITC EYE
I was amazed to discover that this revered southern writer was also an immensely talented photographer, who captured innumerable images of the south of her day, providing us with a record that cannot be easily ignored. These photos really carry one back to a time of racism and Jim Crow that many would rather forget, but they also manage to show that even in the midst of this oppression and struggle, the African-Americans of the era also managed to find joy in everyday life. An exceptional collection, which ranks right up there with Walker Evans and the very best photographic chroniclers of early 20th century.

The Eye of the Writer
Eudora Welty, the excellent Mississippi author was also an excellent photographer and for those who value her writing, discovering her photography is well worth the effort. I am reminded a bit of Walker Evans but Welty's photos are full of people and faces, in an almost pre- William Eggleston way, or Diane Arbus.

These haunting photos of faces of the old South include ...
These haunting photos of faces of the old South include black women entrepreneurs, snooty white clubwomen, white storekeepers, cute kids of both races; in short, the characters who dwell in Welty's stories and novels. These pictures reflect her familiarity with aspects of small-town Southern life and provide insights into her writings.

This is a lovely photo collection and in good shape for an old book
This is a lovely photo collection and in good shape for an old book. The only problem was the mildew smell and it bothered my allergies. Old books are fine if they have not been stored in damp places like basements.

Incredibly Beautiful
This book is filled with beautiful photographs that show a profound respect for the dignity of each person photographed--rich or poor, black or white, old or young. Eudora Welty was truly a woman ahead of her time. As a current resident of Mississippi, the pictures have a special resonance.

Photographs as well as Literature.
If you are familiar with her writings, her grandiose expression of the Old South, than you do not want to miss her bright photographs; outstanding portraits of the 30th, when segregation and age of depression are building the soul of time. Completed with an Interview and also a preface by Reynold Price.Edition of University Press of Mississippi/Jackson.Needless to say, I love it.
