This is a great book. After 5 years of public school
This is a great book. After 5 years of public school, my son is completely burned out from anything to do with formal learning. This will be his first year being home schooled, and this book provides a way for him to continue learning math without pulling out worksheets and textbooks.

Love this book!
I wish I could download into my children's brains a mastery of math. Since there are no medical/scientific procedures available to do that yet (right??), resources that help my children LOVE math. This book is top of the list. The games and activities are coded for age level right at the top corners of the pages so you know without reading through the directions and set up whether or not it is age/capability appropriate for your child. The games are suited for children with their parents, siblings together, in homeschooling co-op groups, or math "parties" for classroom. They are interesting, require relatively little preparation, and get your kids reviewing those math concepts *almost unaware.A great buy! There are a few other books in the series, one for younger kids and one for older kids. I would definitely recommend this!I bought mine used from a dealer on amazon, and received it quickly and in great shape for a great price. I'd check here first... although I check here first for most things.Just FYI, I also love the Sir Cumference books by Cindy Neuschwander (available on amazon) for read aloud, fun, real world applications of math. The Life of Fred series is excellent too (also available on amazon).I am not being paid or forced to promote amazon, but I do love the ease of purchasing online from a vendor I trust.Happy calculating!

This book is full of great ideas to augment and reinforce math skills in a fun and creative way outside of conventional problem sets. The "games" offer meaningful way to instill math concepts in ways that are tangible, creating a foundation that can be built upon for more abstract problems. I am using this book alongside Khan Academy for home school of my seventh grade son. I choose age and skill appropriate "games" from the book that reinforce the subject areas he is encountering in the standard curriculum. For example, the "fraction kit" and associated fraction games have established a baseline understanding for equivalent fractions, least common denominator, adding and subtracting fractions of unlike denominators, mixed numbers and improper fractions. When my son was having difficulty comprehending a fraction subtraction problem with a negative answer, I whipped out the fraction kit and showed him the problem on a physical "number line."

LOTS of activities
Family Math for Young children is good and has many fun activities, but WHOA this book is FILLED with activities. The book adjusts the difficulty to the child. No doubt we will be pulling activities out of here for years to come.
