I'm a bit of a notebook afficionado, and I recently came across the Midori Traveler's Notebook (Passport size) on several websites. The Midori is developing a small but very enthusiastic fan base, and after purchasing the Passport size Midori, I can certainly understand why. The notebook has an amazing, hand-crafted look; it's really quite luxurious and makes me want to write.The Midori is basically a leather notebook cover into which you can add various inserts, including notebooks, planners, and pouches. The cover comes with one Midori notebook (unlined). Their paper is of extremely high quality - it's a pleasure to write on it.The system is so simple - an elastic band threaded through holes in the leather cover holds notebooks and other inserts into place. Part of this band is separated, so you can use it as a placeholder. Many people add charms or beads to this part of the band to personalize it. A second elastic band threads through a hole in the back and can be wrapped around the whole notebook to make sure that nothing falls out of it. These bands are both replaceable, so if they break or lose their elasticity, you can get new ones. The Midori came with two outer bands - one in brown and one in orange.In my Midori, I have two notebooks - the one that came with it and the  Midori Traveler's Notebook (Refill 005) Passport Size Blank thicker paper . I also added the  Midori Traveler's Notebook (Refill 004) Zipper Case Passport Size  and a  Traveler's Notebook Kraft Envelope with string - small orange  to hold stamps and stickers. Finally, I affixed a  Midori Traveler's notebook Pen holder, Brown 016  to the cover and I'm ready to go!The whole thing fits comfortably in my pants pocket. It can even fit into my shirt pocket, although it's a bit heavy. It's so nice having such a gorgeous notebook to carry; I can write and keep track of various things with the Midori. The leather (which is dyed with all vegetable products) even smells great. I'm extremely pleased with my purchase!

WARNING!!!!!! Seriously, be careful with these things. I bought the notebook, then I bought some different inserts, then I bought some extra parts in case anything broke, etc. etc. etc. Now a few weeks later I am sitting here decorating this awesome little notebook that I have somehow sunk over 100 dollars into. Seriously though, it is great and after i customized it the notebook now has a monthly diary(9.50+tax) a clear zipper passport case (9.00+tax) a rules notebook insert (9.99+tax) and a graph paper insert (7.00+tax) and some extra connection bands and other bits for just under 20 total.. Then I added a pen holder for 11.89+tax and some sticker kits of varying price and what do you get? The biggest @$$hole is the world, which is apparently me. In all seriousness, this is a great little notebook and I highly recommend it. The leather cover is very well made and stylish. The vegetable tanned leather will wear and gain character as you use it ensuring that this is a notebook you will want to keep and use for years to come. The inserts themselves are, to be blunt, hilariously overpriced. The price of a full sized notebook of graph or rules paper can be half or less then the price of its 80 page mini counterpart. That being said, the quality is superb. I write with fountain pens, so I need good paper. With decent ink and a fine point pen this paper has not bled through the page or feathered. The paper fibers stay firmly attached to the page where they belong and not clogging the nib of my pen. Overall the price is a tad bit high and you are paying extra for the name and the novelty it represents. That being said, the quality of the product and its accessories is uncompromised. The extra cost may seem a bit much, but this little notebook will not let you down. Just as a tip: my setup has the clear pocket and three booklet inserts in total and is filled to the max, so do not buy more then you may need as two booklets is where you should probably draw the line. I hesitated for a long time before buying this. Probably a year. I just couldn't being myself to spend that much on what equates to a square piece of leather.I'm glad I finally pulled the trigger.I had certain criteria that I wanted met with my next notebook. For years I have carried 5 x 8 sized journals for my daily entry and project ideas. The trouble I always have is that when I finish a notebook I need to keep it around because of my scattering of thoughts, notes and projects. I wanted a way to simplify the organization of this.I am also addicted to dot grid notebooks. Once you have one you'll understand.Now for the midori passport. I can carry three separate smaller notebooks that I can easily subject. I have a small pad for house projects, a separate one for my daily tasks and notes, a separate one for my thoughts and musings. Before these things just all ended up in linear order in my larger journal, I find this new method far better.I use Scout Books dot grid. They are affordable and perfectly sized for this. Better than cahiers which don't fit and midori doesn't make a dot grid.The leather is very nice. After actually holding it and using it I realize that to make one of these myself would cost $20-30 for the materials. It's worth buying one.This is fantastic. Don't hesitate to buy it. The only thing I dislike is this large tin button that holds all the strings. The sailor in me says a knot would have done better at some point I'll fix it.

This is the best purchase I have made in a long time. I put in the weekly calendar booklet with the plastic zippered case and it works wonderfully. The plastic case has card holders in the back and my debit card will tap through the leather - Bonus!! I no longer carry a wallet, just this.
