SUV RVing: How to Travel, Camp, Sleep, Explore, and Thrive in the Ultimate Tiny House

Interesting and informative read
I read this mostly as a curiosity to see what the author had to say with his travel history. I did my first “SUV” camping in 1968. It was an opel cadet rally that I cut the metal out between the back seat and trunk, so the wife and I could sleep in it. This was on a trip to Alaska. Also lived out of a 55 Chevy panel. Then a old Chevy blazer (can’t remember year (carb model) for several trips/ years. A 2002 PT cruiser was last. Rear seat removed and large plastic box put there. We tent camped with it and it was great. What all this rambling is about, is I didn’t get much real information from the book that I didn’t already know or experienced. The way the tarps were fitted to top was clever!Still. It is pretty all encompassing and will definitely be of help to anyone taking that first plunge in this lifestyle. Hence the 5 stars.I’m in my mid 70’s and a HHR is what I now use, mainly because that’s what I have(was the “toad” when we were full timing in a A class RV)

Full of practical and useful tips and advice
Excellent, very informative and well-written. This book is aimed right at me, and maybe at you. We all have our preferences, and I really enjoy driving my little 2013 Ford Transit Connect as compared to a larger van, like the bigger Ford Transit. Maybe it's because I raced small sports cars many years ago... I just love the feeling of driving small vehicles. And by comparison, we also have a very well-made 1991 Lazy Daze 22' RV. While I appreciate the quality and thoughtful LD design... it's perfect for her, not for me. Different worlds... if you go on a trip with a partner, of course go in an RV. But by myself? Never. I love going down dirt tracks in the desert and on old logging roads in the forests, and you really, really don't want to do that in an RV or large 2WD van. And so I HAD to buy this book! What would be my perfect vehicle? How about a high-roof 4Runner, Toyota? Because while I enjoy lots of space in the old Transit Connect, there are moments where I would kill for 4WD and a front skid plate. Front 2WD gets me most everywhere, but there are limits. Anyway, an excellent book, and I will buy anything else by this author in future!

SUV Camping for You or for Me? Let's Wait and See
When I review a book, I typically will have that book right next to me. I might even open the book and have a look-see at a few pages. Well, I just gave my hard copy to my nephew who might soon be taking up the SUV RVing pastime. So I am basing this review on memory (and at my age that's just not right). This was/is a neat book that provides the reader with a foundational idea of how to approach camping and boondocking in one's SUV. There are plenty of how to do it examples with supporting pictures. The author provides a few novel ideas in his book. I feel quite confident that this book will give my nephew a fair rolling start in his future SUV RVing adventures. [By the way, the author is on YouTube under the same name as the title of this book. This book nicely fills out the details the author shares on his YouTube channel.]

This is an invaluable guide for the neophyte and experienced SUV RVer!
I was skeptical that a book offered free to Amazon Unlimited readers could be much more useful than a brief pamphlet, or a teaser for a more expensive resource....I was totally wrong on both points! The personal experience of the author, copious photographs and diagrams helped me make decisions about what to take and how to enjoy this unique mode of travel and camping in most locales reachable with my 4Runner, which is now very usable as the base of my future outings.I was very pleased to discover that I could use equipment that I already owned, augmented by a very few “creature comforts” that cut me free from the limitations of staying in National Forest campgrounds, many of which are either crowded or filled to capacity. I had already been using dispersed camping outside of women of these, but ran into several snags or unsuitable for many of my trips. This amazing guide expanded my horizons and opened new possibilities for us.Don’t be fooled by the price! Read this and make sure it is in your Kindle library for on the road. Thank you, Tristan!!

Great introduction to budget exploring in your SUV - but it is NOT a #vanlife guide!
Who is this book for: The young (or young at heart) solo traveler or couple with an SUV looking to put it to its intended use - exploring hard to reach locations that most campers don't have the skills or courage to visit. People who like to take long weekends, or week-long explorations, or even a cross-country trip - while not spending a boatload of money on creature comforts.Who this book is NOT for: The tech-obsessed couple with pets and/or kids (probably pets) looking to renovate a van or larger vehicle into a mini Park Avenue apartment on wheels, with built-in cabinets, murphy beds, integrated electronic systems, and StarLink in order to work (and maybe even "live") full-time on the road.Ultimately, this is a CAMPING book - NOT a #vanlife guide! That said, this book is at the very least a great way to kick your camping game up a notch! And it would be a great place to start for those just sticking their toes in the water, or those deciding whether to take the plunge on full- or part-time road living. But you want to think more milk crates and coolers, rather than cabinetry and Dometics.

Excellent Reference to transform your SUV to an RV! Highly recommend this book!
Here I've had my 2007 RAV4 for12 plus years and just discovered I had an RV. Thanks for the great tips and tricks and how to's and I'm configuring my RAV4 to hit the road. Just waiting for some organizers and I'm good to go. I've got most everything I need from my backpacking gear. I'm 6'2" and with the drivers seat moved forward, and I fit nicely into my very comfortable sleeping berth. Can't wait to explore the Northwest and Western states from my RAV4. Thanks Tristan for such a well thought out, written and inspiring book to get out there and explore!! You've also got a great YouTube channel.

Great ideas and lists for car camping.
I checked this out from library and realized I needed my own copy so I could mark the lists and important ideas.

SUV/RVing
I have read a number of these rving/van-dwelling books and have picked up a tip or two from most, this book was no exception. I enjoyed reading it and as far as I'm concerned that's all that matters.
