It did not come with directions. It worked well the first time, but I had trouble retracting it(I had to YouTube it) but I weakened the metal stripping with my previous attempts. So IF I buy another one I would not use it until I needed it, but the price is not great for one use...but keep in mind the damage was by my user error. It may have been a different story had I YouTubed it first.

This product is overall alright it has some hiccups1- it can be fairly flimsy being that it is a rolled up price of metal2- it is very finicky and difficult to push back into the original handheld state3- it has sharp edges at the base so when collapsing it be carful of the metalThis product overall though is what I wanted it just takes some time to break inAlso after seeing the other reviews about people getting hurt with this product I have a pice of advice when in packaging the product, upon opening the box the main product is inside a ziplock baggie. When it is collapsed in the baggie it is NOT locked so that may be why the staff pops out and expands upon opening so when opening the package be sure to LOCK the staff before opening the baggie. And when you collapse it I recommend twisting and pushing at the same time as well as be aware of the sharp edges as to not cut yourself.I would recommend this for those that like to twirl staffs and batons.

I purchased this product for my 10-year old son after he begged me profusely. After the 1st use, it needed to be reassembled and although I followed the instructions it was still quite difficult. Please use your gloves, preferably thick ones as I did, or you can seriously slice your finger off! As I was pushing the unraveled cane to reset the wand my son thought it would be helpful to grab and hold it from the bottom to help mommy stabilize it. Well lo and behold it all happened so fast that as I was pushing down his finger became caught right there on the bottom and he received a nice little slice! I was terrified and disappointed at the same time while trying figure out how could that have happened when I took all the necessary precautions! 🙃 Never again will I purchase this item and do not recommend for anyone as danger lies at all angles.

this review is NOT FOR JUST THIS ITEM ONLY many things i have purchased are defective or grossly insufficient of advertising this item is completely worthless and useless somethings come not 100% as advertised for instance the remote control led light bulb is non working junk i spend a lot of money on amazon but i feel my complaints go without a response i have issues i want to communicate with you about but i can't get through to a live person to give these issues n a voice IM SURE IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS THESE COMPLAINTS SO WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT ????? I saying this because I've seen a lot of crap about this and I get it. "OmG tHeIR iS nO OnsTruCtiOns" or "WorsT ProdUcT eVer, CauSeS InjuRiEs" and I understand that. I f you were more knowledgeable of what you were dealing with, there was at least a reason to buying this. First and foremost, there is instructions for both releasing and retracting the staff, as well as what to do when it ends up looking like a possible death trap. I bet most of you are over this by now understanding and reading through the descriptions and videos posted with the product. In my perspective, I can see use as a prop or "band kid" resource material, but I just like it cause of functionality. Great product and very simple for those with the minds of an Illusionist. ;)

The first few times we released the staff it was neat but so hard to put back in. Now it has a bend in it and is not able to screw back into itself. It looks neat and we can use it for Halloween as a prop but it will never go back in its small size.
